THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to internal movement in the team we have an exciting People & Culture Manager position we are looking to fill immediately. We are open to full time or part time (4 days a week). We are a tight knit team looking to leverage your expertise to help design, implement, monitor and review our People initiatives.

The People & Culture Manager partners with the Acting Chief People Officer to manage the planning,  development  and  delivery  of  people  initiatives,  which  may  include  Leadership Development & Coaching, Labour Planning, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, Reward & Recognition, Inclusion & Balance and others. The People & Culture Manager  will  directly  manage  a  team  of  People  &  Culture  Science  Partners  (HRBPs)  and oversee their day-to-day P&C activity.

Salary: Up to $150,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: 9-month fixed-term contract.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES

Provide effective and visible leadership of BAU People & Culture operational matters and manage P&C staff members (inc. People & Culture Science Partners)

  • Ensure BAU People & Culture Service Delivery – examples include; Case Management (performance & conduct matters); Reporting – including Board and GLT reporting; WGEA etc, Data/ Reports supporting all initiatives; Cyclical Audit Processes (including COI, Annual Award Reconciliation and Payroll);
  • Drive continuous improvement of policies and processes to make it as easy as possible to do great science, within the governance landscape – examples include enhancing onboarding and offboarding processes (with other key enabling functions such as IT), evolving Garvan’s competitive Remuneration, Reward & Recognition Framework so that it drives enablement / achievement of great science; Ensuring there are clearly defined career paths / structures for all common role specialities at Garvan (Eg: Computational Scientist, Software Engineer); ensuring P&C Ask page is continually added to and maintained to ensure ease of self-service on common topics; Workday User Experience; Policy & Process continuous improvement; Position Description simplification and centralisation

Partner with People Leaders in nominated P&C Science Partner ‘Customer’ Portfolio

  • Work with the assigned customer cohorts (eg Programs/Teams) to co-create and deliver a tailored, strategically-aligned People Plan, as well as contribute to the development of the Programs/Team’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Build relationships with leaders as a trusted advisor that solves people challenges and establish and maintain influential relationships with clients to help guide positive employee interactions and outcomes.

Assess, plan and manage day to day operations impacting the Institute

  • Consultation and decision making regarding day-to-day operational management issues such as Workplace, Health, Safety and Wellbeing matters,
  • Providing feedback on operational decisions with strategic impact for referral to GLT
    for decision

ABOUT YOU

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

The key skills and experience include:

  • Significant experience as a HR leader or HR generalist and/or related role. Minimum 5 years experience.
  • Strong experience in data reporting/analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience in leading or providing advice with complex investigation processes
  • Ability  to  research,  analyse  and  interpret  information  when  providing  advice  to  team members and the greater organisation.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring other team members, people leadership experience desirable.
  • Experience rolling out or leading HR projects associated with the employee-lifecycle.
  • Tertiary  qualified  in  HR,  Psychology  or  equivalent.  A  science  degree  would  be  an advantage.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the construction of a supportive, collaborative  work  environment  with  the  ability  to  lead,  supervise,  coach  and  develop employees.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with senior leaders, people leaders and staff to implement organisational improvements.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian employment law and experience in handling employment relations issues
  • Adept problem solver
  • Experience in using one or more HRIS (Workday would be an advantage)
  • Reliable and highly confidential nature with an ability to exercise sound judgement
  • Strong  written  and  verbal  communication  skills  with  the  ability  to  negotiate  sensitive matters
