POSITION: Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis

LOCATION: DSST: Home Office located in Denver, CO

SALARY: $66,300 – $79,900 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver! 

STATUS: Full time school year, benefits eligible, exempt, in-person position

START: Immediate

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager of FP&A drives DSST’s efforts to ensure that we have effectively allocated over $146M across our growing network of 16 schools, impacting over 7,000 students and will have the opportunity to support our network as we continue to grow. You will serve as an integral link between our School Directors, Home Office Directors, and FP&A and Accounting teams as you support the network in the budgeting, financial reporting and grants processes. The Manager of FP&A will have the opportunity to lead strategic projects that will help drive the overall direction of the organization while learning from some of the smartest education minds in Colorado. You will have the opportunity to work directly with senior leaders across the organization and key external stakeholders. This position will report directly to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis.

Financial Reporting & Analysis (70%):

  • Enhance and streamline existing financial reports in Workday and the Adaptive budgeting system to provide actionable reporting for budget owners in the schools and at home office

  • Prepare financial reports for the COO, the Board of Directors and other leadership team members

  • Support Home Office Directors by providing financial results, reporting and partnering on analysis of results, future spend expectations, and guidance on budget management

  • Analyze financial reports to identify key areas of variation 

  • Collaborate across finance team lanes to support the work of the entire team including partnering on improving accuracy of expense coding

  • Own subset of Home Office Department budgets and partner with owner’s of those budgets on budgeting and forecast process

  • Lead the project to improve and streamline Adaptive budgeting system processes and models

  • Lead the project to build reporting that monitors FTE variances between accounting and budgeting systems to maintain accurate records

  • Support Finance Director FP&A with long term forecasting process

  • Provide support with any integrations for new accounting or financial software applications

  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance financial reports and streamline financial reporting processes, enabling a focus on analysis and value added work

Grants (25%):

  • Fully own federal grants reporting to district partners and ensure that all allocated federal grants are received by DSST Public Schools

  • Create comprehensive reporting to be used by accounting and FP&A teams showing budgets, current balances and spending detail on grants

  • Partner with Development team to ensure accurate accounting and donor records

  • Develop a process for school grant budgeting and reporting

  • Act as key contact to district partners for all grant-related tasks

  • Approach work with a continuous improvement mindset by identifying areas to improve and streamline data collection, automate reporting and standardize reporting of grant funding both internally and with our partners

Additional Duties (5%)

  • Play an active leadership role in building and sustaining Home Office culture

  • Engage with our school communities to actively build relationships between our schools and the home office

  • Participate in & support the execution of Home Office & Network-wide events

  • Project work and various other duties as assigned by the Director of FP&A and COO

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of previous finance experience, preferably in a K-12 setting

  • At least 1 year of proven experience managing a budget across multiple locations, in an education setting a plus

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships and collaborate across business functions

  • Strong continuous improvement mindset and open to and give honest feedback

  • High proficiency with Excel

  • Self starter with the ability to drive projects forward

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (degree in related field preferred)

  • Experience with Adaptive Insights budgeting tool preferred

  • Experience with Workday preferred

  • Experience working in a school setting preferred
