The Role

The Director, Global Benefits will be responsible for leading all aspects of global benefits, retirement and wellness including: strategy, design, policy, administration, and compliance. This individual will work closely with our global HR team and global brokers to evaluate and benchmark H&S health benefits and retirement programs to ensure competitiveness in the market. This person will analyze and oversee the design and development of global benefit plans, ensuring the programs are both competitive and cost effective. The incumbent will serve as a strategic partner to the Company, making data-driven decisions and applying a deep expertise in industry best practices, benchmarks, legal and statutory requirements, and emerging trends. This role works with our HR leaders in locations around the world to manage global benefit plans and directly leads the Manager of U.S. Benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Work with VP, Total Rewards to develop global benefits strategies by analyzing and understanding market trends, including pending and proposed legislation related to benefits, for a global workforce.
  • Manage the design and administration of all global benefits programs, including all health & welfare, retirement, paid leave and executive benefit offerings, by researching and analyzing industry trends, best practices, and legislative requirements, advising senior leadership of the impact legislation will have on the firm.
  • Act as the global benefits subject matter expert, creating international benefits processes and policies, consulting with local HR and business leaders on benefits best practices, and advising market/business entity peers and leaders on potential risks related to benefits decisions.
  • Research, recommend and participate in the selection of benefits consultants and vendors. Develop, maintain and manage effective relationships with external vendors and benefit service providers, including contract negotiation, quality benefits administration and service levels. Manage benefit escalations and work with providers to find a viable solution for all parties.
  • Lead implementation of new programs and policies, ensuring programs meet business needs and providing regular status reports to senior leadership of the Company.
  • Identify and seek opportunities to continuously improve the efficient administration and regulatory compliance of benefit programs.
  • Provide budget oversight and make appropriate decisions within scope of authority.
  • Develop and maintain reporting metrics and benchmarking of plan performance and costs, including risks and opportunities.
  • Create and deliver effective ongoing communications to ensure employee awareness of all benefit offerings and optimize plan participation, staying abreast of regulatory changes and mandatory disclosures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in benefits with at least five years in a global benefits leadership capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of health, retirement, wellness, disability and leave plans, as well as working knowledge of tax, accounting, legal and immigration issues with respect to benefits.
  • Deep knowledge of the global benefits landscape including strategy, design and global administration, including management of benefit offerings for international locations.
  • Proven experience supervising managers, analysts and other support resources to ensure the highest quality outcomes of the team, while guiding the learning and professional development of direct reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex benefits concepts to non-benefits professionals.
  • Experience serving as a consultant/advisor in analyzing business needs, balancing business needs with compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build long-term, trusting relationships with leaders and other colleagues around the globe and across different areas of the business; understanding of and appreciation for regional needs and differences.
  • Experience collaborating with people at all levels of an organization to gather and disseminate often complex and sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical skills and comprehension of insurance underwriting and actuarial concepts.
  • Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail and accuracy; highly-organized and able to prioritize in a fast-paced, high-performing, and client-focused environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage and complete multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Flexible and adaptable to rapid change.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Global benefits (CEBS or the equivalent) certification.
  • Experience in a professional services environment.
  • Experience with Workday (HRIS).
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.

Pay Range Guidelines for this Position:

The salary range for this position is 180000 USD to 220000 USD. Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience and skills. In addition to your salary, Heidrick & Struggles offers discretionary bonuses (subject to eligibility requirements) and a comprehensive benefits package including: medical, dental, vision, disability leave, parental leave, paid time off and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Note: we have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
