Job Description:
The Assistant Vice Provost for Student System Optimization provides leadership for the continued development, alignment, and improvement of the University's student information system (Workday Student). This position ensures that system functionality and configuration accurately reflect institutional policy, support, academic operations, and enhance the overall student, faculty, and staff experience.
The Assistant Vice Provost serves as a bridge between Academic Affairs, the Office of the University Registrar (OUR), Enrollment Management, Student Finance, and Information Technology Services (ITS) to ensure seamless coordination across all student lifestyle processes. The role emphasizes collaboration, process improvement, and system optimization in support of institutional goals and student success, while ensuring academic priorities remain central to enhancement efforts.
Job Responsibilities
Lead efforts to optimize Workday Student functionality across all academic and administrative units. Collaborate with the Office of the University Registrar, Enrollment Management, Student Finance, and ITS to ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency in student records and academic operations. Work in concert with ITS to ensure that academic interests are prioritized and represented in all system optimization efforts. Analyze academic and administrative workflows to identify system-driven improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery. Manage the intake, prioritization, and communication of system enhancement requests, ensuring transparency and alignment with institutional priorities.
Partner with an ITS counterpart to design, develop, and deliver comprehensive training initiatives that strengthen user understanding and effective system utilization. Serve as the primary liaison for Academic Affairs in all student system-related projects, governance discussions, and operational planning. Monitor Workday Student updates and assess impacts on academic policy, configuration, and user experience. Coordinate feature release preparation and adoption of new Workday Student functionality by partnering with functional units to validate and communicate system changes. Partner with ITS and functional stakeholders to ensure effective system governance across multiple institutions.
Additional Requirements
FERPA – As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matter, they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience in student systems, registrar operations, enrollment management, or academic administration OR Master's degree and 8 years of experience in student systems, registrar operations, enrollment management, or academic administration.
Specific Experience:

Demonstrated experience with Workday Student or comparable entire-level student information system.

Strong understanding of academic policy, student life cycle processes, and data governance.

Proven ability to communicate complex systems and policy interactions in accessible, solution-oriented ways.
Preferred Qualifications
