Who You’ll Work With:

AB’s Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) group is looking for a Vice President / Director of Advisory Compensation.  The position is part of AB’s FP&A group while sitting within Bernstein Private Wealth Management (PWM) reporting to PWM’s National Director of Business Strategy.  Bernstein’s Business Strategy team sits within PWM’s Chief Operating Officer’s organization. This individual will have responsibility for supporting the commissions and compensation cycle for a widely distributed sales force of Wealth Advisors and Managing Directors.  The FP&A group is comprised of a team of approximately 25 professionals and plays an essential role in being a trusted business partner to the various businesses at AB. 

What You’ll Do:

This role is ideal for a senior financial professional with an interest in analyzing data and making sound decisions, with a strong desire to manage details and deliver results. The successful candidate will be flexible with the ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding fast-paced environment. The individual will work closely with colleagues across Finance and Private Wealth Management.  Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provide monthly commission forecast modeling for expense accrual and compensation planning.
  • Perform and review quarterly commission calculations in accordance with Wealth Advisor contractual terms.
  • Calculate annual Incentive Award for Wealth Advisors along with communication to these employees.
  • Prepare quarterly communications to Wealth Advisors and Managing Directors regarding their compensation calculations.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly calculations of severance defined payments due to terminated Wealth Advisors.
  • Respond to inquiries from Wealth Advisors by acting as a single point of contact with individuals in the Revenue Accounting, Payroll, Production Reporting, Human Capital and Legal areas.
  • Expense and balance sheet account recording and analysis including the calculation of monthly commission accruals.
  • Provide supporting documentation as requested by both internal and external auditors.
  • Provide ad-hoc quantitative support to the Private Wealth business unit.
  • Research and resolve problems utilizing relevant software tools, experience with these tools is critical as described below.
  • Manage two FP&A direct reports who also support advisory compensation reporting and processing.
  • Work with the VP/National Director, Business Strategy and internal MIS professionals to support the existing commission plan and implement enhancements to the plan based on requirements set by the Private Wealth business leaders. This will include opportunities to partner with PWM Leadership on the design and strategic direction of PMW’s commission schedule.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 7-10+ years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, Finance or Accounting with commission calculation experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Analytical and detail-oriented; comfortable with organizing large volumes of data
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access skills are required
  • Experience with building and maintaining models to analyze data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Committed to providing a superior level of service to a highly entrepreneurial and demanding sales force
  • Strong candidates will have exposure to some or all of the following: Workday (ERP and Adaptive Planning EPM), CompXL, IBM Cognos Analytics, IBM Planning Analytics (formerly IBM TM1), Varicent
