Job Description:

As the learning lead for the talent management team, and reporting to the Director, Talent Management, you will guide the learner experience at Allison Transmission. 

You will facilitate the design, development and delivery of learning initiatives that align with the organization's most pressing business challenges and talent skill gaps. You will create custom solutions and use industry acknowledged programs that challenge and support our employees to be their best.

Main Responsibilities

Leading all aspects of the Allison learning experience, including:

  • Collaborating with business leaders, HR business partners, diversity, equity and inclusion partners, and employees to build a culture of learning at Allison.
  • Sharing your vision of excellence, and continually refreshing that vision through a combination of outside resources, training, and lessons learned.
  • Acting as a change agent and trusted business advisor on effective and ground-breaking learning and development strategies to achieve business goals.
  • Evolving the global learning process, applying your vision, experience, curiosity, inventiveness, and attention to detail to Allison's existing systems and processes in order to craft an exciting path forward.
  • Establishing and leading a global learning council; prioritizing learning activities, establishing the most efficient use of effort, coordinating with impacted parties, and presenting status with transparency, accuracy and regularity.
  • Forging a dynamic, productive partnership with the Manager, Operational Training in support of their drive to deliver an exceptional training experience for the people working on the production floor.
  • Partnering with internal and external technology partners to deliver the best possible systems support for Allison's learning experience; managing day-to-day Workday LMS administration and serving as the learning business process expert for more technical projects involving the HRIS team and/or external partners.
  • Guiding the "buy vs build" conversation with respect to learning content; creating or procuring engaging and useful content, and ensuring that content reaches the right people at the right time and using the right modality to be most effective.
  • Facilitating live training with chameleon charisma, matching your style to audience and content.
  • Resolving challenges effectively, efficiently, and without ego.
  • Exploring learning data and using that data to tell practical, concrete stories that drive action.
  • Contributing to the Allison Employee Value Proposition and incorporating it into the learning experience.
  • Advising the Director, Talent Management on the learning budget, vendor relationships, and contracts.

Key Performance Measures

  • Established reputation as a valued learning experience advisor with strong interpersonal and inter-departmental relationships.
  • Employee engagement measures related to learning are tracked at the course and enterprise level, and trending positively.
  • Learning data is accessible, useful, trust-worthy, and in use at all levels of the organization to drive decision-making.
  • Learning processes are clear, well-documented, easy to find, and meticulously followed.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in learning design and technology, instructional design, education, communications, human resources, management, or related field. Equivalent experience or a mix of education and experience would be just fine.

Strong preference will be given to those with experience as an engaged Workday learning business process owner.

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability in a corporate learning environment (3+ years); in depth understanding training theories and principles, including needs assessment, applied behavioral science, adult learning theory, organizational development, and/or established industry models of evaluation. Experience including manufacturing, engineering, and learners outside of the US preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate training in large and small group sessions.
  • Expertise in designing and driving learning process enhancements; strong project management skills.
  • Expertise maintaining relationships with external vendors and partners.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with LMS functionality and a variety of instructional and graphic design tools: Workday Learning and Articulate Storyline strongly preferred.
  • Experience establishing and iterating on comprehensive and insightful metrics to improve learning effectiveness and inform and influence business decisions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication including strong presentation skills and storytelling to influence & motivate change.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of interpreting data, understanding trends and developing recommendations for action.
