The Manager, Workday Operations & Strategy plays the lead role in the support of the Workday ERP platform at Babson College, which includes HCM, Learning, Finance, Adaptive and Workday Student. This is both a leadership and a hands-on position that requires management skills as well as expertise in Workday administration and configuration (as needed). Specifically responsible for providing technical leadership to the Workday Operations team with the goal of increasing the value of the College’s investment in the Workday platform; taking a key role in supporting the Finance division and the Workday student platform with existing support, enhancements and new products, and managing 3rd party vendors when used for staff augmentation; overseeing the day-to-day operations of Workday (identification and resolution of issues, report and dashboard creation and deployment, Tier 2 user support, etc.); acting as the lead technology resource on all Workday projects, as needed; and working with project managers to plan and complete Workday related projects including the adaptation of existing business processes to the Workday platform, rollout of new Workday functionality, periodic Workday upgrades, and the adoption of new Workday modules.


  • Maintain oversight of Workday Operations and oversee institutional strategy and implementation in regard to the Workday ERP, while working with SMEs and various constituencies across the College.
  • Oversee Workday Finance, Adaptive and Workday student projects that enhance current operations.
  • Act as the Chair of the Workday governance working group, to ensure that SME’s and key stakeholders are aligned on cross-divisional projects.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) across the Workday platform at Babson and with Babson IT team members including, but not limited to, working with HRIS Workday staff on needs that relate to HR; as well as working with Finance and Student leads on Workday configurations, scheduled upgrades, and issue resolution.
  • In conjunction with the Enterprise Architect/CISO and various Project Managers, develop and execute work plans and coordinate day-to-day operational aspects of Workday and Workday related projects and initiatives.
  • Convene and conduct regular Workday Operations team meetings; lead weekly Workday change control meetings.
  • Monitor progress, including cost and quality of deliverables for both Workday Operations and Workday projects.  Prepare detailed status documents.  Support the gathering and analysis of metrics to evaluate the Workday Operations program performance; draft summary reports based on this analysis.  Prepare and propose project modifications for sponsors.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project vendors; approve vendor invoices.
  • Update Project Sponsors, DCIO, CIO, and others about project and program statuses on a regular basis.
  • Ensure documents relating to projects and the Workday Operations program are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Responsible for business process analysis & definition which requires helping business units define, map, and analyze specific, individual business processes to ensure efficiencies are realized.
  • Work collaboratively across all departments to help improve the management of business processes.
  • Responsibility for Workday administration, in collaboration with SME’s from HR, Finance, and Student Services: Business Process Definition/Workflow Creation & Maintenance; Application of Security Model; Tenant Management; and Integrations Management
  • Provides end user support (i.e., phone, email, Tiers 1-3, Escalation & Resolution).  As the primary overseer of the College’s ERP, responsible for working closely with SMEs and others in the business units to ensure all tickets are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Bachelor’s Degree

Must have at least 4-6 years of experience in information systems management and support (prefer 6-8 years of experience); and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing staff and a budget.

At least 1 year of experience working on Workday projects, preferably in a lead role.  Must have configuration experience, knowledge and skills.

Must have familiarity with the fundamentals of Project Management and best practices in systems and processes.

Must have a strong understanding of Internet-based applications and tools, data management, and business process analysis.

Must have excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills

Superior verbal and written communications skills with the ability to express technical concepts clearly and across all levels of an organization

Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and priorities

Must have strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Must be a motivated, independent learner with a passion for IT topics

Ability to determine task priorities, and plan and manage those priorities to move a project forward to completion
