Summary

The Human Resources Partner for Student Employment serves as a generalist within the HR department, providing a broad range of support for Human Resources functions, including but not limited to recruitment, interviewing, and job placement.  This role is integral to the development and delivery of student employment programming and is responsible for managing the student employment social media presence. 

The position serves as a primary point of contact for general inquiries related to student employment processes, as well as HR policies and procedures.  It also supports a variety of projects within the Student Employment Program, including reports and data maintenance, audits, reporting, and benchmarking activities.  In addition, the HR Partner ensures the smooth operation of the HR front desk by creating a coverage schedule, delivering high-quality service to students, faculty, and staff. 

Responsibilities include providing guidance and support related to job postings, hiring, onboarding, departmental transfers, and separations.

This position requires in-person attendance for the first 90 days.  Occasional evening and Saturday hours may be required to support special events.

Essential Functions

1. Serves as the HR partner for student employment by completing various functions to include:

  • Provides high-quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

  • Manages the HR ticketing system to identify any student employment tickets. All tickets must be responded to within 72 hours.

  • Creates job requisitions for student employment, including FWS.

  • Collaborates with hiring managers/recruiting coordinators to ensure student employees' interviews and placements are completed promptly.

  • Reviews applications and resumes, determining eligibility based on qualifications. Notifies candidates when not selected.

  • Participates in interviews to match students with the right position depending on the student’s major and/or interests.

  • Collaborates with hiring managers/recruiting coordinators to ensure PDQs are completed. After student employment placement, ensure PDQ is signed by the students and uploaded to Workday.

  • Assist students with general questions regarding the application process, job placement, and the student employment program.

  • Maintain accurate student employment records, files, and data.

  • Verifies the authenticity of new hire documentation in compliance with I-9 form requirements, and conducts re-verifications as necessary. 

  • Responsible for scheduling and facilitating virtual I-9 verifications when applicable, ensuring that unexpired documents are presented to confirm identity and work authorization within mandated deadlines.

  • Regularly accesses the E-Verify portal to monitor and resolve open cases in a timely and compliant manner.

2. Works closely with Senior HR leadership on a variety of projects for the student employment program:

  • Assist in creating and delivering programs to engage student employees.

  • Manages and monitors social media accounts, ensuring all posts follow Barry U policies.

  • Ensures websites display accurate and the most up-to-date information on FWS procedures.

  • Attends occasional student employees’ events after hours or on weekends.

Proactively follows through on pending Business processes

  • Initiates various functions in Workday HCM/Recruiting, such as creating job requisitions, referring applicants, or inviting candidates to apply for vacant FWS positions.

  • Approves/reviews various business processes in Workday to include hiring (upon departmental approval), assigning organization, and processing job changes such as transfers and terminations. accurately enters the information in the student employment main report..

  • Ensures pending background checks and onboarding activities are completed in a timely manner by contacting the students directly.

  • Contact hiring managers/recruiting coordinators to ensure all pending BPs related to student employment are approved promptly as needed.

  • Assist in monitoring and tracking hours for all students, ensuring compliance with the institutional and federal student employment policies. Notifies and works with supervisors to ensure students are terminated upon assignment ending or graduation.

  • Accurately update the student report to track all actions and communications with the student.

Other duties as assigned:

  • Assist the talent acquisition team members as needed.

  • Assists the employment team with the review of faculty and staff resumes.

  • Assists all new hires with onboarding and I-9 verification.

  • Process Contingent Worker forms in collaboration with other HR Partners.

  • Assisting with various projects as assigned, such as data clean-up.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field of study.

  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources, Administration, or Financial Aid.

  • Additional work experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience working with college students or as a Federal Work-Study.

  • High level of analytical skills to problem solve a variety of Human Resources-related challenges, providing sound judgment in decision making.

  • Proven ability to take initiative and prioritize actions while managing numerous tasks.

  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to learn Workday Human Capital Management, Workday Recruiting, and TeamDynamix.

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills along with positive attitude, sound judgement, courtesy, tact and diplomacy to ensure the highest level of customer service to all University constituents and is the model for inclusive community and collaborative service. ​
