Position Summary

The Director FP&A position is a highly visible role, responsible for collaborating with multiple business leaders and executives to implement financial reporting and drive insightful analysis.

The person in this role will serve as a trusted advisor to the SVP, FP&A, and the Blucora senior leadership team in many key business decisions with financial impacts. Success in this role requires an ability to gather and analyze complex data, form conclusions, and present recommendations that directly influence strategic and tactical decision-making for all areas of the company.  The role will develop best-in-class forecasting models that are automated, sustainable, and reliable.  They will build effective relationships at all levels of the organization to ensure accurate knowledge of the business and up-to-date factors that drive change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with key functional leaders to drive alignment and accountability for relevant financial assumptions, plans, trade-off decisions, ultimately resulting in performance.
  • Key trusted advisor and primary financial partner for corporate shared service leaders.
  • Design and oversee streamlined cadence for meetings, reporting, and recurring deliverables, enhancing communications within Finance/Accounting and with the business segments, driving efficiencies and automation where possible.
  • Actively participate in the monthly close process, working closely with accounting and business leaders to ensure complete and accurate financials.
  • Ensure proper cost controls, accountability, forecasting and planning of initiative-related expenses, advance approach to project-related reporting. 
  • Provide financial analysis including variance analysis, cash/liquidity forecast, leverage analysis, performance management compensation models, and ad-hoc quantitative modeling to support corporate finance projects.
  • Performs what-if analysis and ad hoc requests for investors, executives, and management as needed.
  • Drive strategic financial analysis leading to capital allocation decisions, project ROI monitoring & realization, corporate cost allocation methodology, Capex investment portfolio management, and provide thought leadership to improve enterprise capital investment and project finance processes.
  • Performs detailed analysis and creates insightful reporting of operating performance against corporate goals & objectives.
  • Contribute and participate in earnings-related financial reporting on a quarterly basis
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year strategic financial plan; play a leading role in annual planning processes well as long-term strategic planning efforts. Developing planning documents & models to support strategic reviews. 
  • Manage and mentor FP&A team members.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, or Accounting at a public company.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields. Candidates who do not meet the undergraduate degree requirements but who possess, or are working towards, a postgraduate business degree or advanced finance certification will also be considered.
  • Must possess a broad financial background including experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting.  
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to build accurate financial models, interpret financial data; draw sound conclusions.
  • Strong attention to detail and advanced organizational skills are required.
  • Experience with Adaptive Planning and Workday is preferred.
  • Advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • An ability to understand complex business concepts and to be able to make good judgment when faced with choices.
  • Possess urgency for results and a bias for action.
  • Capable of listening to people, being respectful of their opinions, and a proactive ability to serve as an evangelist for change/improvement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex issues to senior executives.
  • Team player with ego under control. Collaborative in seeking the opinions of others, but capable of influencing them when appropriate.
  • Desire to make the company’s financial organization a respected resource.
  • Ability to collaborate across various levels of the organization, including effectively partnering with people of different backgrounds and levels to achieve business results.
