Position Summary

Blucora, the parent company to Avantax Wealth Management, Avantax Planning Partners, and TaxAct is seeking a Financial Analyst III that will be responsible for collaborating with multiple business leaders and executives to implement financial reporting and drive insightful analysis. The person in this role will serve as a trusted advisor to the Director of FP&A and the Blucora senior leadership team in many key business decisions with financial impacts. Success in this role requires an ability to gather and analyze complex data, form conclusions, and present recommendations that directly influence strategic and tactical decision-making for all areas of the company.  The role will develop best-in-class forecasting models that are automated, sustainable, and reliable. They will build effective relationships at all levels of the organization to ensure accurate knowledge of the business and up-to-date factors that drive change.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead recurring meetings with senior leadership to review, interpret, and analyze departmental expenses, and to stay abreast of current and forthcoming initiatives.

  • Build and maintain a system for tracking and analyzing personnel changes and open positions. Own the headcount budgeting and reporting process.

  • Design and maintain a well-defined cadence for meetings, reporting, and recurring deliverables, enhancing communications within Finance/Accounting and with the business segments.

  • Review journal entries, supplier invoices, and internal communications to understand the nature and circumstances of an expense.

  • Actively participate in the monthly close process, working closely with accounting and business leaders to ensure complete and accurate financials.

  • Provide financial analysis including variance analysis, projections, and trend analysis.

  • Leverage Workday Adaptive Planning to enhance accuracy, increase the visibility and transparency of financial reporting and KPI data, utilizing automation of systems.

  • Create and document policies & procedures for the FP&A function to establish consistency across all segments.

  • Evaluate and streamline current processes, develop plans to reach goals, and implement improvements.

  • Assist the Director of FP&A in developing and maintaining a multi-year strategic financial plan.

  • Work independently and remotely to meet deadlines.

  • Prepare ad hoc analyses as needed to support the business.

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, or Accounting at a public company.

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields. Candidates who do not meet the undergraduate degree requirements but who possess, or are working towards, a postgraduate business degree or advanced finance certification will also be considered.

  • Must possess a broad financial background including experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting. 

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to build accurate financial models, interpret financial data; draw sound conclusions.

  • Strong attention to detail and advanced organizational skills are required.

  • Advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Project finance experience is a plus (CapEx vs. OpEx, cash flow forecasting).

  • Experience with Adaptive Planning and Workday is preferred.

  • An ability to understand complex business concepts and to be able to make good judgment when faced with choices.

  • Possess urgency for results and a bias for action.

  • Capable of listening to people, being respectful of their opinions, and a proactive ability to serve as an evangelist for change/improvement.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex issues to senior executives.

  • Team player with ego under control. Collaborative in seeking the opinions of others, but capable of influencing them when appropriate.

  • Desire to make the company’s financial organization a respected resource.

  • Ability to collaborate across various levels of the organization, including effectively partnering with people of different backgrounds and levels to achieve business results.
