The Temporary Professional Coaching and Development Advisor team provides specialized career guidance and industry-specific mentorship to students across CCA’s academic divisions: Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, and Humanities & Sciences. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Professional Engagement and External Partnerships, the team will initiate and cultivate relationships with employers through networking opportunities to increase the professional engagement and internship opportunities for students.

Under the guidance of the Senior Director, the advisor team will lead a new initiative to develop collaborations with CCA faculty, program chairs, and deans to align professional development and course learning outcomes, providing support to bring experienced and creative industry trends to the classroom. The Professional Coaching and Development Advisor engages in functional responsibilities providing leadership for professional engagement events with programs, identifying ongoing local professional development opportunities, and arranging workshops and student engagement events with the collaboration of the faculty in each program.

This is a part-time (3-20 hours/week) temporary position based on the academic schedule.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student and Employer Relations- 35%

  • Partner with the Senior Director to build a diverse professional network of faculty, alumni, parents, and industry professionals who can share their career experiences and success stories to motivate students.

  • Build and help manage partnerships with employers to create internship and career opportunities aligned with our academic programs

  • Based on own background and network, support relationships with diverse employers to expand opportunities for students and resources for alumni

  • Recognize organizational and industry trends for professional opportunities

  • Reference online resources (LinkedIn, listservs, social media) to connect students to employers and employment opportunities

  • Support professional development events and workshops, coordinate employer visits and portfolio reviews

  • Foster an inclusive student culture that celebrates diversity, promotes mutual respect, encourages personal accountability, and nurtures leadership skills.

 

Consultation and Resources – 35%

  • Provide comprehensive support to students across all programs, including advising, coaching, and skills development through student appointments and professional networking and/or recruitment events..

  • Conduct workshops for both graduate and undergraduate students on essential professional development topics, such as:

    • Internship success strategies

    • Professional work practices

    • Understanding employer expectations

    • Interview Preparation

    • Resume writing techniques

    • Career path exploration

  • Provide expert guidance to students and faculty on professional development, including internships, employer relations, professional and artists associations, industry trends, and hiring practices

  • Partner with ISS to support international students in connecting with employers and employment opportunities in the U.S.

Administrative- 25%

  • Update coaching content to align with current hiring practices and standards

  • Reference career development resources and platforms

  • Research hiring trends and needs from industry leaders, and artist studios and galleries.

  • Collaborate with the college community on the strategic development of resources and programs

  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive issues and records.

 

Other related duties as assigned based on business needs and available capacity – 5%

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director to develop online materials educating CCA students and alumni about professional development services

  • Lead initiative to align professional development with course learning outcomes

  • Maintain and promote the CCA job board (Handshake) with up-to-date opportunities 

  • Develop employer relations content on the CCA portal and update it bi-annually

  • Create tutorials for employer use of Handshake and other digital tools

  • Manage comprehensive employer, student, and alumni records on Handshake while generating insightful statistical reports to drive data-informed decision-making.

  • Explore Workday implementation for student engagement and skill tracking

  • Support hiring and supervision of student worker event assistants

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Professional Coaching and Development Advisor role is crucial in guiding students toward professional success in the art and design industry. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of professional development resources and diverse career pathways within the field. The ideal candidate creatively identifies and leverages opportunities, networks, and resources to support students' growth. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for student success. The role emphasizes adaptability, industry insight, and a student-centric approach, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their professional journeys both during their time at the institution and after graduation.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (BFA preferred)

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional work experience in a related field to the programs offered by CCA

  • Strong written and verbal abilities, and effective presentation skills

  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to effectively serve diverse populations

  • In-depth knowledge of:

    • Current employment trends and hiring practices

    • Job search strategies in a dynamic economy

    • Best practices in professional development

    • Fundamental understanding of labor and employment law

  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active professional engagement in relevant creative industries

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or advising students in higher education

  • Strong connections to industry organizations and professional networks

  • Understanding of art and design education pathways and career trajectories

  • Experience with Handshake or similar college job board platforms

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

  • Keen attention to detail and Data analysis capabilities

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • The range for this position is $35 – $45/hour

  • CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the choice of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick & vacation time, a retirement match and tuition remission. CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents.   • This is a part-time (3-20 hours/week) temporary position, based on the academic semester. 15 weeks in the spring and 14 in the fall.
