The Manager, Compensation at C.H. Robinson, a Fortune 200 Company, will lead a team to help build our overall Compensation strategy rewarding our global talent. In this exciting new role, you will ensure we deliver on our commitments by establishing and refining our day-to-day compensation processes, developing and administering innovative compensation programs that drive business results, leveraging best-in-class HR technologies, and continuing to establish a strong partnership with our HR Business Partners on effective best practices. Your leadership experience will be leveraged to lead, coach, and develop a team of Compensation professionals, overseeing base salary, incentive, and sales compensation initiatives.

Our hybrid model will offer flexibility for you to maintain a healthy balance of working remotely and in office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Enable a team of Compensation Analysts to be strategic compensation partners to the business and HRBPs by managing, coaching, and developing their performance
  • Develop a deep understanding of our business units and foster trusted relationships with business executives that results in becoming a trusted Compensation Partner
  • Serve as primary leader in successfully administering a full-cycle year-end compensation process, which includes base salary and incentives
  • Partner with subject matter experts on sales compensation design as the organization is investing in its sales compensation programs to transform the business
  • Utilize data to make decisions, effectively manage the workload, and provide senior business leaders with relevant compensation insights
  • Work with key HR groups to provide input on HR technology systems  to ensure compensation data and programs are in alignment with overall strategy
  • Help identify and create new processes and procedures to enable more fluid transactions that benefit HR and business partners when working with the Compensation function
  • Help create company-wide compensation education tools and resources for employees and managers to leverage as the organization strives for pay transparency
  • Create a governance model that ensures processes and procedures are adhered to and compensation framework is followed
  • Facilitate the annual budgeting and planning process, as well as monitor the ongoing expense management process throughout the year to ensure we’re tracking towards the plan or addressing adjustments
  • Partner with Employee Relations, Payroll, HR Technology, People Analytics, and Finance groups to provide any relevant compensation information or data to complete requests and/or projects
  • Stay current on latest Compensation compliance requirement and trends and share with the team as appropriate; identify, recommend and implement changes or improvements where needed
  • Research and benchmark best practices to identify strategies and tactics for creating a competitive compensation structure
  • Identify and build relationships with external partners and organizations to share knowledge and expertise to help drive areas for improvement
  • Outline employee role accountabilities and expectations; manage performance to drive the right behaviors and improve results and provide useful real-time coaching, feedback, and mentoring, development activities and stretch assignments; support employees with problem resolution
  • Encourage employee feedback through formal and informal channels, acknowledging and taking action on feedback to drive a trusting culture of open two-way communication, inclusivity and continuous improvement
  • Review employee engagement measures and implement action plans to improve team culture, engagement, and collaboration
  • Model the CH Robinson Leadership Principles and visibly lead and support change management including active involvement in communication, implementation, and reinforcement

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience and high school diploma/GED
  • 5+ years of Compensation experience
  • 2+ years of leading and managing teams

Preferred:

  • Proven success leading a team of Compensation professionals
  • Large, global, matrixed company experience
  • Experience with Workday, Xactly, and Payscale
  • Previous Sales Compensation design
  • Proven ability to deliver results with little supervision at times within an ambiguous environment, while simultaneously and effectively managing multiple concurrent projects
  • An innovator with experience implementing a wide range of creative and thoughtful compensation strategies and programs
  • An influencer with a proven ability to develop strong internal client relationships, leveraging strong consultative skills
  • An analytical mindset and ability to identify areas of opportunity and utilize quantitative skills to manage business outcomes
  • An effective and flexible communicator with an innate ability to motivate and inspire others
