Location and Schedule

  • In this position you can expect to work at Denver International Airport. Free employee parking is provided.

  • Monday though Friday

  • 8:00am – 5:00pm MST

  • The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. In this position you can expect to work on site at least 3 days per week. 

  • This position may participate in emergency preparedness exercises, snow, and/or other emergencies. Schedules are subject to change.

  

What You’ll Do 

The Airport Emergency Management Section consists of Emergency Management Operations and Training & Exercise Design.  

The Emergency Management – Operations team staffs the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) with a duty manager for 15 hours a day and is responsible as the Incident Commander (IC) or EOC Manager for airport incidents.

The Emergency Management – Training & Exercise Design team develops classroom and computer-based training and conducts several Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses. This group also manages the multi-year training exercise program, as well as oversees the continuity planning for the entire airport, collating each business unit’s plan into a single comprehensive continuity plan.

Responsibilities and duties of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  

  • Design and development of airport certification training content using Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies that meet 14 CFR Part 139 requirements and associated Advisory Circulars. 

  • Design and development of eLearning content, technical manuals, and online training material covering emergency preparedness topics (e.g., severe weather, active shooter, employee preparedness). This can include graphics, audio, video, animation, and other digital media. 

  • Responsible for instructional design, training content, and eLearning module development.

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing revisions of technical instructional manuals. 

  • Identify and employ a training evaluation model to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program. 

  • Ensure all online content complies with City and County of Denver and Denver International Airport branding standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. 

  • Document the activities of the Emergency Management Section and Operations Division using audiovisual content and develop videos showcasing them. 

  • Provide customer service and troubleshooting to online course end users. 

  • Demonstrate continuous process and quality improvement, decrease production times, enhance content quality, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service. 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including supporting the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during real-world activations.

Our ideal candidate will also have the following skills and experience:   

  • A portfolio showcasing samples of experiences.

  • 2-3 years of technical writing experience, specifically on authoring complex technical training materials. 

  • 2-3 years of e-learning module or courseware development experience, with specific emphasis on complex technical topics. 

  • Ability to write, update, edit, and review technical documentation using established formats, styles, and guidelines. 

  • Knowledge of and ability to consistently apply basic editorial standards. 

  • Proficient using technical authoring tools. 

  • Proficient in performing detailed development of eLearning modules or courseware. 

  • Experience working in a team environment with multiple, concurrent projects and deadlines. 

  • Experience with Articulate Storyline 360. 

  • Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Adobe Captivate. 

  • Experience using ADDIE or SAM development methods. 

  • Workday Learning platform and Brainshark learning platform.

  • Proven experience as a technical writer or in a related role within the aviation industry or a highly regulated environment. 

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including editing course content for correct punctuation, syntax, and grammar. 

  • Knowledge of graphic arts design, multimedia production, video, and digital photography.

  • Thorough knowledge of curriculum design and development.

  

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field. 

  • Two (2) years of experience in a learning and development environment. 

  • One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. 

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.  

  

FBI Background Check 

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.  

Shift Work, Snow Duties, and Emergency Incidents 

This position does require shift work as DEN is a 24/7/365 operation (includes nights, weekends, and holidays). Mandatory extended/additional shifts can be required.  Additionally, this position is required to work mandatory snow duties, which vary and can include nights, weekends and holidays.
