About Risk Management and Workers’ Compensation

The Division of Risk Management and Workers’ Compensation within the Department of Finance oversees the identification, analysis and management of the City’s risk and exposure to loss related to the activities of the City and its departments, agencies and employees. This includes procurement of all property and liability insurance, workplace safety and emergency preparedness oversight for City employees, as well as management of the City’s Workers’ Compensation program for which we are self-insured and self-administered.

The Department of Finance is currently seeking a highly-dedicated Accounting Associate to serve in our Division of Risk Management and Workers’ Compensation. In this role, you will provide lead operational and administrative work within the insurance and risk analysis team.

Specifically, the Accounting Associate is responsible for performing the following tasks:

  • Processing all incoming invoices
  • Logging all incoming checks
  • Deposit report reconciliation
  • Reconciling discrepancies with regard to journal and financial transactions
  • Managing risk fund report of all subrogation recoveries received
  • Preparing and processing all subrogation recovery reclassifications
  • Preparing and processing all insurance claim/property damage claim reclassifications
  • Assisting the Accounting Technician, as needed (processing all medical/indemnity payments/EDI interface)

About You

We are looking for a collaborative, optimistic, and motivated team member who enjoys building relationships and working with all levels of an organization to join our team. The successful candidate will have excellent decision making, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees, peers and leadership. Customer service is crucial.  In addition, our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 3 years administrative experience, ideally with a public entity
  • 3 years Financial or accounting experience
  • Experience working in Workday Financials
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and on a team

  • Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
