Job Description

This position exists to oversee the daily operations of the Department of Health Programs Advising, Limited Entry Admissions, and Retention Services.  The expectations of this position include budget oversight, travel approval, development of strategies to accomplish assigned goals, resolution of employees and learner conflicts, Annual review/revision of the Limited Entry Procedures in conjunction w the Limited Entry Procedures Committee; appropriate interpretation of Limited Entry Procedures as related to learner applications; review/approval of all health programs advising materials prior to implementation or printing; develop and implement departmental functions; personnel supervision and evaluation; evaluation of administrative support staff, address student complaints/concerns to include report and resolution; manage/oversee the online Advising Appointment system; Unit Plan development and oversight; assessment analysis of performance, and effectiveness of services to increase productivity and decrease inefficiencies; collaboration with VPAA, VPSA, Campus VPs, various Dept. Chairs, and PDs for continuity in advising services across CSN.  Position includes supervision, evaluation, and oversight of 3 lead HPAs, 6 general HPAs, 1 LE Coordinator, 1 E-Alert Specialist, and 3 AAs distributed across 3 CSN main campuses, with the intention to increase resources as CSN Health Sciences Programs continue to expand.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related, higher education, counseling, educational leadership/administration, student development, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience advising health sciences learners in a higher education (community college preferred) setting, including 2 years of supervisory/management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in health-related, higher education, counseling, educational leadership/administration, student development, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • 5 years of experience advising health sciences learners in a higher education (community college preferred) setting, including 3 to 4 years of supervisory/management experience.

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of Health Sciences career fields.

  • Knowledge of open-entry and limited-entry Health Sciences programs at CSN.

  • Knowledge of pre-requisite and special program course requirements for all Health Sciences programs.

  • Knowledge of degree requirements and transfer credits from other colleges.

  • Knowledge of Limited Entry Policies and Procedures.

  • Knowledge of System, College, and School policies (NSHE, State, CSN, ESHS).

  • Knowledge of privacy regulations (FERPA).

  • Knowledge of E-Alert Policies/Procedures for students enrolled in Limited Entry Programs.

  • Knowledge of fiscal and strategic planning practices (School and institution).

  • Knowledge of Workday (Human Resources) Policies/procedures, information management systems; learning management systems (CANVAS).

  • Skill in using presentation software to create recruiting and orientation materials.

  • Skill in using/management/oversight of Advising appointment software.

  • Skill in using word processing software to prepare correspondence and other documents.

  • Skill in using student information systems and other databases for retrieving and storing information.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and assess effectiveness of institutional, school, and departmental policies and procedures (Department Unit Plan), Assessment Plan & Reports.

  • Ability to advise Health Sciences learners.

  • Ability to assess departmental (HPA and LE, Staff) effectiveness and recommendations for training/professional development.

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of learners.

  • Ability to manage and supervise a team of professional and classified staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts related to student, faculty, school and institutional concerns, questions, or inquiry.

Minimum Starting Salary Range information:

Administrative Faculty D

The starting salary is $75,564.
