Position Summary
The Retirement Benefits Manager is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Retirement Benefits Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the delivery of the retirement and financial wellness programs to ensure effective and compliant benefit administration as well as delivering exceptional service to team members.
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Manages the overall execution of the Company’s Qualified and Non-Qualified Retirement Plans. This includes plan design, funding requirements, vendor partnerships and plan compliance
- Oversees day-to-day administration and operations of retirement and financial wellness programs
- Leads and manages to completion all compliance-related tasks including, but not limited to, the annual audit and 5500 filing, compliance testing, required notice distributions and required minimum distributions
- Develops and monitor administrative procedures that result in accurate processing of the 401(k) plan enrollment, deferral elections and contribution processing/funding; develop and monitor internal controls; manage all retirement and financial wellness vendors
- Collaborates and effectively communicate will all vendors, the benefits team and cross-functionally to research and resolve administration and record keeping issues
- Understands business and Plan objectives and provide clear direction to vendors regarding upcoming activities, changes, and new joint venture partnerships
- Leads and manages the implementation of new programs, vendors or benefit changes
- Leads and manages the development of standard and targeted participant communications
- Conducts regular stewardship meetings and evaluate account management service, delivery performance and customer service metrics; provide regular feedback to vendors; collaborate with vendors to create, implement, and manage any process improvement initiatives
- Understands plan performance and trends to provide actionable advice and create solutions for retirement and financial wellness programs
- Collaborates with the benefits team to conduct regular reviews of vendor websites, participant benefit materials and resources to ensure accurate information and exceptional service is delivered to team members across all vendors
- Ensures compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code and other relevant laws and regulations governing retirement plans
- Coordinates 401(k) Investment Committee meetings and plan reviews
- Supports other benefits projects as necessary
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree and/or minimum of 5-7 years experience in retirement benefits administration, design, compliance and analytics required.
- Experience with pertinent federal and state regulations affecting 401(k) plans.
- Experience with 3(21) or 3(38) Investment Management model preferred.
- Advanced competency in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) and experience with Workday HRS system preferred.
- Professional certification such as Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred.

- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy. Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Must be able to travel occasionally. Must be high integrity, including maintenance of confidential information.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Professional certification such as Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
