Role Overview :

Client and Product Profitability (CPP) Data Analyst

Our finance team is an integral part of our decision-making process and are responsible for analysing risks, providing relevant insight, and formulating strategies to drive performance, as well as ensuring we meet all our obligations as a responsible organisation around reporting and financial transactions.

Over the last 18 months, we have developed a Client and Product Profitability module using the functionality of our EQP system (Workday). The CPP module works using a combination of external financial and non-financial data, alongside our GL transaction data to allocate revenue and cost to our clients and products. The model will continue to evolve over the next 12 months, especially as we bring the US online.

As a member of the Finance team, initially the CPP Data Analyst will be integral in analysing, preparing, uploading, and managing the Client and Product Profitability model. As the maturity and accuracy of the model improves it is expected that the role will evolve into a more analytical role to provide unique insights, trends, and areas for commercial improvement across the company, as well as focussing on continuous improvement and automation of the model itself.

This position will be a critical part of the process to update, maintain and quality review the inputs and initial outputs of the CPP model.

Whilst the role is based within Finance it isn’t necessary to have a finance background as the key business requirement is to be able to handle and manipulate large data, understand complex model rules and be able to validate that the outputs have worked as expected.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

Inputs

  • Ownership of external data set preparation processes including client mapping and secondary allocations.

  • Preparation of allocation rule submission files for staff costs and overheads.

  • Provision of consolidated data sets to Workday Support teams for loading into the model in line with agreed timelines

  • Iterative improvements to external data sets and allocation criteria to improve accuracy of outputs

Outputs

  • First line review of CPP outputs to assess accurate start point

  • Identification of errors and implementing subsequent changes to reduce errors  

  • Reconciliation of CPP output to reported results for the divisions

  • Analytical review of clients and product profitability across the organisation

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Updating and performing the activities in line with the process (Runbook) timelines through the manipulation and update of large external (excel / CSV) data sources

  • Work closely with colleagues within the programme team and across the wider business to understand the CPP Business rules, identify output errors and raise to the CPP lead or Workday support as required

  • Administer, monitor and manage data in the CPP Tool

  • Monitor and audit data quality, including identifying, evaluating and implementing capabilities to support data validation and improved at source coding

  • Liaise with colleagues to fully understand data content and management requirements

  • Checking that the outputs are in line with expectations through modelling example outputs and checking these are in line with expectations

  • Working with various stakeholders across the organisation to identify and support improvements to increase the accuracy and quality of outputs

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience skills and behaviours:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of data ingestion, complex rules application and validating outputs

  • Experience of solving output problems by using data and facts to identify the likely source of the issue

  • Strong Analytical and Data gathering skills. Experience of using and manipulating high volume of data is essential

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data query/data management tools is desired.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence

  • Knowledge of Workday an advantage.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Qualified, MBA, CA/CWA Intermediate or CA/CWA Qualified.

  • Financial accountancy experience including UK GAAP within multi-national organisation will be an advantage.

  • Data Analytics / Data Mining Qualifications would be advantageous.
