BASIC FUNCTION: Fairfield University needs a talented project manager to lead the implementation of Workday Student and associated projects including PowerFAIDS for financial aid. This person will manage a series of IT projects and provide end to end reporting on project status including dashboards, executive reports, risk updates, and project plans. The project manager will work with a cross-functional team from across the university and our external consulting partners to ensure these important projects are delivered on time, on budget, and that they achieve the planned outcomes. This person will be a key leader within ITS and hold other team members accountable to hit deadlines and deliverables, track action items, issues, & risks, and provide comprehensive executive reporting. This person must be willing to roll up their sleeves and do what’s necessary to make these projects successful. You should be a self-starter, willing to anticipate the next thing that needs to be done and doing it without having to be told. You are never satisfied with the status quo, believing there’s always room for improvement and you should be naturally curious and eager to learn new skills and suggest new solutions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & EXPERIENCE NEEDED: The right candidate for this job has a bachelor’s degree and previous experience juggling multiple projects with competing timelines and priorities. He or she has a working knowledge information systems and enterprise IT. A minimum of 5 years of prior enterprise-scale project management experience is required and prior experience with Workday implementation is strongly preferred. Additionally, experience with financial aid and the financial aid lifecyle is preferred. The ideal candidate is comfortable communicating up and down the chain of command and is skilled at translating technical jargon for non-technical stakeholders. He or she must be comfortable with and adept at presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership. This person should be a system-oriented thinker capable of seeing how various pieces of a project affect other department priorities. The ability to report the status of each project and the overall portfolio with a strong attention to detail is key. Prior experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required
REPORTS TO: Director, ITS PMO
Manage large scale system implementation including technology, process alignment, data quality, and change management while continually assessing project priority, resource availability, budgets, and risks. Work closely with campus partners to ensure priorities are clear and well aligned, projects are tracking toward completion deadlines, and any roadblocks are cleared or escalated in a timely manner. Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget; ensure that project status is tracked and reported appropriately Manage project risks and escalate those risks to management in a timely manner. Develop risk mitigations strategies Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including design specifications, requirements documents, test plans, and go-live sign-off documentation Create and maintain a dashboard showing the status (scope, budget, timeline, Manage the relationship with all internal and external stakeholders and model a professional attitude on behalf of Fairfield University Schedule recurring and ad-hoc meetings and maintain project/program calendar Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
