JOB OVERVIEW

The vision statement for the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team is to “Promote a collaborative environment in providing insightful and actionable financial analysis that enables decision making and tells the story.”

The FP&A function leads the Institute’s financial forecasting, scenario planning, annual budgeting, and operating variance analysis processes in addition to special projects and other data modeling to provide actionable information and valuable insights. 

The Senior Analyst is responsible for compiling and analyzing GIA’s global short-term and long-term financial strategies, including provision of support during the annual budget process, compilation and distribution of management reports, and preparation of financial analysis. This role collaborates across business units to provide visibility to stakeholders at all company levels, surfacing new insights, contributing to strategic thinking, and improving processes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data: Extracts and consolidates data from various sources and designs meaningful models for interpretation (e.g., SQL, OBI).
  • Planning: Assists with the global budgeting, planning, and forecasting processes, utilizing the functionality of Adaptive Insights. Designs and maintains reports in Adaptive Insights. 
  • Reports: Actively involved in report writing; sets up analysis and report generation. Runs, reviews, and distributes reports to management through Workday Financials.
  • Analyze: Evaluates trends and develops models to examine various scenarios with regard to operational metrics. Presents actionable insights to assist business decisions and to support the achievement of operational goals. Questions the data in order to identify the key drivers underlying the financial results. 
  • Management Review: Prepares variance analysis (actual results compared to forecast/budget, year over year, and sequential comparisons) for management review.  Adjusts approach to provide relevant financial statement variance analysis at both a summarized executive level as well as a detailed level depending on needs of stakeholders.
  • Strategy Support: Assists in the translation of business strategy into the financial impact and expected results, including the identification of financial risks and opportunities and the direct and indirect resource requirements.

  • Other: Other ad-hoc duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Cloud Applications: Working knowledge to intermediate in Adaptive Insights and Workday Financials.
  • Data: Experience extracting, analyzing, and drawing insight from sources through SQL and OBI.
  • Analytics: Intermediate analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills complemented by solid execution skills. Data visualization and insight generation ability. Aptitude to process financial data and formulate analytical reports and reconciliations.  Ability to think strategically from a high level with consideration for broader implications of various alternatives.
  • Accounting: Knowledge and understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Detail-Orientated: Strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively review and provide an accurate, well-organized deliverable in a time-conscious fashion.
  • Communication: Excellent grammar, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare presentations and summarize insights in a meaningful way. 
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Prioritization & Time Management: Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.  Ability to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Collaboration & Respect: Ability to work effectively with others, encouraging an inclusive attitude that acknowledges diverse perspectives and alternative ideas through teamwork.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of financial planning and analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and customary business terms and practices is required.  
  • Experience with multi-national business and accounting principles is strongly preferred.

  • Extensive use of office equipment, including a computer, calculator, copier, facsimile, and related hardware and software.
  • May include travel to respective global locations upon request.
