The Payroll Manager will be a critical part of the People Services Team/Payroll Department, reporting to the Director of Payroll. In this role you will be responsible for leading the Payroll Team, ensuring the successful completion of all transactions associated with payroll. The Manager will provide functional and compliance expertise for all aspects of payroll. The role will also participate in developing strategic initiatives that will help evolve and scale the payroll function in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

We offer a flexible work environment. This means working up to 2 days a week remotely and the rest of the time in the office.

“Gauges” of Responsibility  

  • Manage daily operations of the payroll department with regards to accuracy, timeliness, excellent customer focus and compliance.
  • Manage all aspects of payroll staffing by monitoring the workloads of a geographically distributed team and providing staff development.
  • Continuously develop strategic process improvements to maintain the quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the payroll function to ensure compliance with federal, state and local taxing authority requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring systems and processes correctly compute and record time, earnings, commissions, benefits and deductions, taxes, garnishments, and other components of payroll in a strong internal controls environment.
  • Develop, communicate and coordinate with Human Resources on company policy recommendations as it relates to payroll administration.
  • Oversee internal and external audits as it relates to payroll.
  • Ensure proper journal entries, analysis of payroll and related balance sheet accounts are completed timely.
  • Maintain a strong control environment and ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

  • Experience with Workday payroll system including selection and implementation is required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation a plus.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), customer service orientation, analytical, financial and system skills is desirable.
  • Experience maintaining SOX compliance.
  • Outstanding project management.
  • Effective influencing skills with the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Competent computer skills within Microsoft Office.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Finance or related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of payroll experience along with a minimum 5 years of management experience with a multi-national organization.
  • A minimum 5 years of experience with US payroll and payroll tax compliance which includes federal, multiple state and local authorities.
