Ken Garff Automotive (locally known as the Stew Hansen & Dewey Auto Groups) is currently looking for an enthusiastic entry level HR Recruiting Coordinator that aligns with our core values and acts with respect, integrity, growth, humility and teamwork. SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing and coordinating all full-cycle recruitment activities, sourcing talent, and initial onboarding experience efforts in support of the 7 Ken Garff dealerships in the Des Moines area. The HR Recruiting Coordinator is a leader for positive employee experiences, and fosters employee engagement through continued support of the company brand program(s). This position primarily works daytime hours and would office on-site at the Stew Hansen Buick GMC dealership location in Clive.

This role will report to the Regional HR Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Full life-cycle recruitment on assigned roles which includes qualifying, sourcing, screening, ensuring the onsite interview is meaningful, following-up with candidates/panel, and sending offers through Workday
  • Active, frequent sourcing through databases and social media – thinking creatively to attract and mine talent
  • Researching and recommending alternative creative solutions for recruitment challenges
  • Evaluating talent via phone screening
  • Developing meaningful recruitment reports to communicate updates to the business & HR team
  • Managing postings on all professional job boards, university and technical college sites
  • Ensuring an exceptional candidate experience for all applicants – internal and external, as well as contributing ideas to streamline recruitment processes for hiring managers
  • Forming and sustaining relationships with dealership management to support their recruiting needs
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies and requirements for federal, state and local regulations 
  • Contributing to the development of the recruiting strategy plan
  • Conducting check-ins with newly hired talent at multiple intervals
  • Leading and/or participating with cross functional HR partners on miscellaneous project work; Ad hoc projects include creating process documents, employer (TA) branding, attending career fairs, upkeeping the KG Careers profiles on various social media channels, and various surveying
  • Representing Ken Garff Auto Group to the external talent market as appropriate
  • Share current store events and dealership successes with company Social Media team to post online


  • Coordinate and facilitate New Employee Orientation (NEO) utilizing content provided by Corporate teams
  • Partner with dealership management to ensure new hires receive an exemplary first week experience

HR Administrative Functions

  • Although not a regular duty, the ability to understand payroll process, support automated process and be knowledgeable with who to contact when issues arise
  • Be proficient with benefits to answer questions, provide accurate information and facilitate new hire enrollment
  • Ensure new hires adhere to all company standards relative to drug testing, background check, and MVR reporting; coordinate the new hire process with the HR team and management to ensure a smooth process for the employee
  • Ensure all new hire paperwork is completed within 24 hrs. of start date and according to company policy; manage the I-9 process
  • Create and maintain employee files as needed and within compliance procedures
  • Ensure all new hire forms are signed or acknowledged
  • Guide employees through benefit enrollment and answer basic questions


  • Become proficient in Workday and assist the management team and employees in becoming successful with its use
  • Be proficient in Workday with assigned tasks and be able to train managers and employees as needed
  • Be helpful with supporting managers and employees with Workday function and reporting tools
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 1+ years experience in Recruiting and/or Human Resources
  • Talent sourcing experience a plus
  • Automotive industry experience a plus
  • Able to build relationships with internal, external clients, and candidates 
  • Able to communicate clearly with all customers (hiring managers and candidates) as well as all levels of the organization – including peers, leadership and all recruiting process stakeholders 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with a high sense of urgency
  • Experience working with social networking tools for recruiting (Facebook, LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, tact and diplomacy 
  • Relevant experience working with pay plans and state laws in a complex environment is a plus
  • Prefer experience handling employee survey data, focus groups, and open communication meetings
  • Presentation experience and a presence that commands respect, attention, and care
  • Workday experience a plus or similar HRIS with basic data input, running reports, and analyzing data
  • Ability to influence leaders through outstanding communications – both oral and written
  • Proven ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to adapt and lead change efforts
  • Proficiency in MS Suite (preferably Office 365), intranet and internet, Applicant Tracking Systems (Workday),  behavioral assessments and behavioral based interviewing
  • Must be able to speak, hear and communicate clearly and concisely with all personnel, business partners and external contacts.
  • Working knowledge of labor and employment laws preferred
  • Typical workweek with daytime hours but occasional overtime may be required, per business needs
  • Some lifting, such as carrying a briefcase or laptop
