Human Resources Specialist

The Human Resources Specialist will assist the HR Manager in providing human resources support to hourly union and salaried employees at the Kiel Dairy facility. Provides support in managing human resource initiatives, employee relations, and labor relations at plant location. Responsible for partnering with center of excellence recruiting team for hourly recruitment and on-boarding, selection and hiring, including self-assessments, background checks, and drug/alcohol testing processes.

Job Description:

  • Execute the recruitment plan by aggressively recruiting for well-qualified candidates from a variety of sources, managing selection process to include interviewing, assessing candidates, screening, recommending finalists, and filling the staffing needs.

  • Responsible for hourly recruitment process to include selection and hiring. Internal bidding process. Coordinates and schedules interview process.  Maintains and tracks applicant files.  Conducts orientation and coordinates the new-hire process.  Conducts plant training for new hires.

  • Logs and tracks performance and all other employee discipline for the plant.

  • Maintains employee personnel and all other HR related files.

  • Supports management in coaching and development of their teams along with application and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices, according to policy formulated by Director of Labor Relations and the plant.

  • Participates in union/management meetings including grievance meetings, contract negotiations preparation, and arbitration preparation as needed.

  • Facilitate and schedule orientation of new hires.

  • Provide direction and counsel regarding human resources aspects to plant operations.

  • Maintains legible records and documents as required for investigations and other HR related matters.

  • Assists with recruitment plan based on department needs that define and commit to performance criteria.

  • Develops and reviews diversity (AAP) plan with focused recruitment strategies.

  • Maintains and generates EEO reports consistent with AAP/EEO requirements.  Participates in community activities that demonstrate and support our Affirmative Action goals.

  • Track and post legal and compliance information and other union information as needed.

  • Analyzes training needs; coordinating training delivery with plant management; facilitating various training activities; and monitoring compliance with required training protocol.

  • Partners with EH&S and other department leadership as needed for ADA, FMLA, and short- and long-term disability processes.

  • Maintains OSHA log and workman’s compensation reporting.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience -Education (Required):

  • Undergraduate degree in human resources or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Human Resources Generalist role with emphasis in manufacturing or production environment.

Competencies-Skills (Required):

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and drive change in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common software applications.

  • Experience with Workday, SAP, or similar enterprise system.

  • Experience with ADP, Kronos and Paychex.

  • Communicates and administers HR related policies/procedures fairly and consistently.

  • Handles all HR matters confidentially and with great tact and professionalism.

  • Efficiently processes workload and is flexible to assist others as needed.

Experience -Education-Skills (Preferred):

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. 

  • Experience/Exposure working in Union setting.

  • Experience and career history with “Fortune 500” type companies strongly desired.

Hours: Base work hours are: 6:00am – 3:00pm – Kiel plant  is a three-shift manufacturing plant; the incumbent will need to be flexible to work off-shifts hours from time to time or switch shifts as needed.
