Job Description:
The Senior Payroll Consultant will support the operations of the Payroll Services department, including regular payroll processing, quality assurance, and account reconciliations. The incumbent supports the Manager, Payroll Services with ensuring compliance with established payroll principles and practices in accordance with the collective agreements, relevant legislation, regulations, and employment standards.
Qualifications Required
Education & Experience
- Two years related diploma (finance, business, etc.) plus completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience directly related to processing of pay or payroll systems in a complex, high volume, multi-union environment, preferably in the public sector.
- Workday experience will be strongly considered.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Intermediate or advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications (including Excel) and the ability to upgrade if required.
- Knowledge of collective agreements as they pertain to payroll matters.
- Knowledge of the various regulations governing payroll administration in British Columbia, including the Income Tax Act, Employment Insurance Act, regulations of the Canada Pension Plan and College Pension Acts and Workers’ Compensation Board.
- Knowledge of pension information and calculations.
- Knowledge of auditing and internal control best practices.

- Ability to investigate and resolve issues and discrepancies, including complex payroll issues.
- Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to exercise a high level of initiative, responsibility and accountability while being a proactive, organized, and energetic team player.
- Maintain current knowledge in new or existing standards, regulations, and laws relevant to payroll.

Salary Range:
$39.84 – $58.44 per hour

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC).
