Purpose
- The purpose of the role is to ensure all staff benefit from relevant technical (legal) and skills training at the appropriate time to support their development, their value to the business and ultimately the quality of service.
- The role will have responsibility co-ordinating training activity across the region, including client training. The roleholder will respond to regional priorities whilst implementing best practice in design and operational practices.
Key Dimensions
- Assists the regional Head of Learning & Development in the implementation of a training strategy for the region.
- Influences key stakeholders to accept and agree with training best practice and recommendations.
- Contributes Learning & Development expertise to strategic and operational projects.
- Manages both internal and external resources appropriately.
Key responsibilities and challenges
1. Learning & Development knowledge and processes
Apply knowledge of core L&D tools and L&D best practice (e.g. conducting training needs analyses, designing training, delivery of training, applying evaluation methods) in order to:
- carry out hands-on work within any area of the cycle (design, development, delivery, evaluation);
- utilise expertise of external L&D specialists (where appropriate) to facilitate effective implementation of initiatives within the region;
- project manage L&D initiatives;
- contribute L&D expertise to region- and firm-wide projects.
2. Technical training
On an ongoing basis help manage the provision of regional technical training courses. This will include:
- assisting with design of training (where appropriate);
- ensuring materials are kept up to date through liaison with practitioners/Knowledge Lawyers;
- planning and coordinating faculty, participants and venue and overseeing implementation of training;
- carry out necessary evaluation of training;
- liaising with K&L Partners to manage appropriate attendance of associates on London-based technical courses (e.g. Global Corporate Foundation Course, Global Finance Course).
3. Skills training
- Liaise with the practice and HR team to ensure staff attend the appropriate courses at the right time and that they are linked to individual/business need objectives.
- Monitor the quality of training provided and relevance to practice needs and liaise with specialist L&D to provide feedback and influence redesign work where needed.
- Assist with the delivery of some skills courses in Asia as appropriate.
- With guidance from central L&D develop a regional menu of skills modules, and identify appropriate external faculty, as appropriate, to deliver courses, planning and coordinating faculty, participants and venue and overseeing implementation of training, carry out necessary evaluation of training.
4. Client training
- Liaise with the practice K&L partners to develop and deliver an ongoing programme of client seminars and ensure they are aligned with client relationship management objectives, while demonstrating L&D best practice.
5. Other
- Ensure that training activity is accurately and efficiently managed and measured through the firm’s Learning and Performance Management system (Workday Learning).
- Contribute to the development of online learning courses and resources.
- Liaise with L&D Assistant to ensure all training is accredited for Hong Kong Law Society or other Continuing Professional Development points where applicable.
- Responsible for project management of new training initiatives.
- First point of contact for external suppliers in relation to key projects/courses

Education / Qualification
- Graduate, 2:1 undergraduate degree
- Specialist or post graduate qualification in HRD, Psychology or similar (desirable)
- CIPD membership
- MIPD qualified (desirable)
- 3-4 years work experience in HR / Learning and Development
Languages
- English
- Knowledge of/fluency in other languages (desirable)
Practical Experience
- 3-4 years experience in L&D gained within blue chip or professional services environment with a strong learning culture
- Specific experience in working with SMEs (subject matter experts) in the co-development of professional and technical training (desirable)
- Experience of using tools in the analysis, design, development and evaluation of learning interventions
- Experience of managing external training faculty/ consultants
- Experience of managing external suppliers
- Experience of working effectively across cultures
