Position Summary ​

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for optimizing payroll processes with a strong focus on detail and system utilization. This position plays a key role in all aspects of the company’s payroll processing including processing of payroll records changes or updates, import payroll files, validate and review entries made prior to final payroll sign off, and creating and distributing reports. This position will serve as a subject matter expert for Workday HCM (Human Capital Management) and Report Writer.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Perform daily payroll department operations, including collecting, calculating, and entering data

  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely

  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports

  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers

  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes

  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages

  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information

  • Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits

  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance

  • Execute time and attendance processing and interface with payroll

  • Process manual checks

  • Process weekly and off-cycle multi-jurisdictional payrolls

  • Load import files

  • Research and email appropriate audience of file issues

  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests

  • Working knowledge of state and federal wage & hour laws

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED required.  4-6 year of experience with processing multi state payroll.   Workday experience is a plus.  Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have proficient experience with Workday or other HCM system and Report Writer.  Strong proficiency in MS Excel.

Certificates and Licenses: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred but not required.
