Job Summary: Mattress Firm is thrilled to announce the opening of the (HYBRID) Senior Financial Analyst – FP&A Retail Operations role! We are looking for a dynamic Senior Financial Analyst to join our Corporate Finance team and play a key role in driving impactful change within our retail operations. This position will go beyond traditional financial analysis, with a strong emphasis on data analytics. The ideal candidate will have experience in analyzing large data sets, identifying trends, and deriving actionable insights. In addition to typical FP&A responsibilities, such as annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, variance analysis, and financial performance presentations, this role will focus on optimizing processes and identifying opportunities for improvement. We seek a problem-solver who can think creatively to enhance procedures and provide valuable insights to our retail teams, enabling them to focus on key areas that will drive meaningful results. This hybrid role will report to the BedQuarters location in Houston 3 days and may work remotely the other 2 days each week.   

 
Essential Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the forecasting, annual budget, and long-term strategic planning processes for assigned business areas by collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather assumptions, update financial models, and prepare leadership presentations.   

  • Analyze data sets (e.g., sales data) to provide unique insights that help both Finance and Retail teams understand the key drivers of business performance.   

  • Design and present data in clear, visually compelling graphics that effectively communicate key findings for executive review and strategic decision-making.  

  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis of varying complexity which may include calculations of rate of return, depreciation, working capital, investments, budgeting, and financial and expense performance comparisons.   

  • Monitor business performance throughout the month, communicate favorable and unfavorable variances to plan, and proactively address any issues to minimize surprises when reviewing actual results post-period close.  

  • Package financial results and present it for Senior Leadership and external consumption.  

  • Maintain and enhance existing financial models and build new models where needs arise, including development of dashboards.   

  • Create what-if business models to analyze potential outcomes from strategic decisions.   

  • Become a subject matter expert in assigned retail operations areas, such as consumer financing and Sales Associate commissions, and act as a liaison between the Retail and Corporate Finance teams.  

  • Work closely with the internal Mattress Firm Data Analytics team to develop automated reporting systems to track relevant financing metrics and generate actionable insights.  

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with financing vendors to optimize the promotional financing mix, balancing sales growth, margins, and costs while developing and executing market strategies.  

  • Continuously evaluate current processes, develop new tools, and implement improvements that enhance reporting and drive behaviors that boost sales and margins. 

  • Complete all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date.   

  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all.   

  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external contacts.   

  • Follow all Company policies and execute Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation.   

  • Communicate any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and Company operations.

Education 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Data Analysis required.  

 

Professional Experience 

  • 3+ years experience in a finance or business analytics role such as FP&A, Management Consulting, Data Analysis, or similar.  

 

Skills List 

  • Proficiency in SQL and data analytics platforms such as PowerBI  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills  

  • Ability to apply analytical thinking to develop financial models, analyze data, and track and communicate financial results and recommended actions in a clear and concise manner 

  • Demonstrate team work skills, but has a self-starter mentality with the ability to work efficiently and effectively on independent assignments and drive continuous improvement  

  • Adapts to new situations, changes, and shifts strategies to meet different types of challenges 

  • Organizing and Planning time between specific activities 

  • Skilled in initiating, structuring and carrying out steps to complete projects and tasks

Pay Range:

85,000-90,000
