Job Description

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Research Administrator.  This is a grant-funded, renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Director of System Sponsored Programs and EPSCoR.  The position is located in Las Vegas, NV.  The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: two universities, a state college, four community colleges and a research institute.  The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant challenges and opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 12,000 employees.

OVERVIEW/DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Research Administrator for the Nevada System of Higher Education will be responsible for providing preaward/post award research administration and daily programmatic oversight of education, workforce and research programs, including GEAR UP.

STARTING SALARY:  $65,000 – $75,000

APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE:  November 15, 2024

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must have an earned a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.  A minimum of 2 years progressive experience directly applicable to the position is required.  Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in non-profit/higher education grants management.  Preference given to Certified Research Administrators (CRA). Experience with Workday preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities.  It is recommended that applicants for this position address each of the following items in the letter of application:

  • Knowledge of NSHE rules and regulations and OMB Uniform Guidance 
  • Extensive background in grant proposal and budget preparation
  • Excellent computer skills using statistical spreadsheets and word processing software 
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Ability to work autonomously

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility within the System Sponsored Programs and EPSCoR Office:

Research Administration:

  • administer program budget that is typically over $1 million annually
  • manage the day-to-day activities of programs
  • oversee all accounting and financial transactions, approve expenditures and maintain fiscal oversight of programs
  • prepare subawards and distribute grant funds, process modifications to awards
  • review invoices from subawardees to ensure compliance with program requirements, as well as state and federal regulations
  • track project cost-sharing
  • oversee purchasing card and expenditures to a central operating budget
  • assist in post award accounting and close out cycles
  • ensure compliance to federal regulations, non-regulatory guidelines, Office of Management and Budget requirements (Uniform Guidance), and specific sponsor requirements
  • work with a team consisting of university staff and administrators to provide overall programmatic needs
  • develop and prepare grant applications and submit grants through required portals
  • oversee and coordinate request for proposals (RFPs) statewide and prepare proposals for review
  • compile and submit interim and annual reports while ensuring reporting and evaluation requirements are met
  • perform general office tasks as necessary
  • communicate and work collaboratively with individuals from a broad range of demographic, ethnic, educational, economic and professional backgrounds
  • travel statewide and to national meetings (5% of the job)
