Job Description

Nordstrom’s People Analytics team focuses on using organizational research, data science, and data analysis techniques to uncover employee and organizational insights that contribute to Nordstrom’s long-term success.

The People Data Analyst 2 is responsible for partnering with other People Analytics team members to build data models that support operational initiatives, query and visualize data to build out analyses, and assist with team initiatives (e.g., employee survey analysis, data documentation & process). In this role, the individual will be expected to both be hands-on with the data and partner with our data and workforce scientists to deliver meaningful, actionable insights.

  • Partner with other People Analytics team members on regular and ad hoc projects and analyses
  • Mine, clean, and manipulate data to build a wide range of analytics that support the team and HR.
  • Apply common statistical methods, data modeling, and others to identify patterns in the data that answer strategic and operational questions for the business.
  • Understand and translate both strategic and operational business needs into testable hypothesis that drive actionable analysis and strategic recommendations. Clearly articulate limitations of an analysis/experiment based on existing constraints.
  • Identify patterns and trends in the data to help focus discussions and decision-making.
  • Document variables, assumptions, and code/formula necessary to generate and reproduce an experiment/analysis.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure insights are relevant and user-friendly.
  • Assist with People Analytics owned programs, such as employee surveys, assessments, and external benchmarking.
  • Demonstrate productivity through the efficient use of time and a commitment to strong results.
  • Demonstrate curiosity through investigating past surface-level questions/data to ensure the holistic story is explored and understood.

You own this if you have…

  • Applied experience managing and analyzing structured and unstructured data using tools such as Python or R
  • Experience designing and conducting research in an applied setting with actionable insights
  • Experience translating sophisticated findings and data in a compelling and easy-to-understand narrative for non-technical audiences
  • A knack for taking initiative and dealing with ambiguity as projects change and evolve
  • A love of learning and willingness to take on new challenges that require new ways of thinking
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners
  • Workday experience a plus
