Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate & Strategic Planning and working closely with the Strategy & Transformation portfolio team, the  Advisor, Ministry Liaison, will act as a liaison and will manage the key governance tables between the agency and its overseeing ministries (the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long-term Care). The incumbent will manage related initiatives, coordinate key projects, and provide strategic advice, secretariat and communications support to the Senior Director and business partners across Ontario Health. 

 

This role will demonstrate a high level of collaboration and teamwork, sharing information and working in partnership with leaders from across Ontario Health, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

 

Here is what you will be doing:  

Program Management /Support

  •  Support the portfolio leadership and business partners to drive and align strategic programs and initiatives with key business objectives.

  • Support the governance of key tables between Ontario Health and its overseeing ministries including drafting and maintaining Terms of Reference that are designed to achieve our shared objectives.

  • Collaborate with peers to set informed, strategic agendas for the key governance tables with the Ministries (e.g. Joint Liaison Committee with MOH, etc.) and ensure effective follow-up on items of strategic importance.

  • Supports the Senior Director, Corporate & Strategic Planning in liaising with key government stakeholders on corporate accountabilities, reporting, and planning instruments.

  • Provide guidance for initiatives resulting from discussions at the governance tables.

  • Develop, optimize, document, and standardize sustainable processes across the programs, sharing best practices across the portfolio.

  • Monitor major policy and political developments that may impact OH or that can be leveraged to build partnerships and drive results.

Project Coordination

  • Lead and participate on a variety of projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Corporate & Strategic Planning

  • Develop and monitor project plans, track and follow-up on risks, accurately report progress against milestones to keep initiatives on schedule.

  • Coordinate activities of projects; determine project priorities, set project milestones

  • Develop and schedule project work plans, in accordance with project specifications and guidelines

  • Develop strong working relationships and maintain open communication with project stakeholders and project team members

  • Leading consultations and meetings with management, project teams, and stakeholders

  • Monitor specific deliverables, timelines, and communications

  • Follow-up on team member commitments and proactively identify issues and risks

  • Analyze and consolidate project scorecards ​

Business Support

  • Act as the liaison and work with the Senior Director, Corporate & Strategic Planning and, OH functional areas, key ministry stakeholders, and other stakeholders to develop, consolidate, and coordinate information in response to requests and requirements

  • Provide support to the Senior Director, Corporate & Strategic Planning to ensure timely and accurate information is prioritized, researched, analyzed, and summarized on current and emerging issues to support discussions pertaining to OH’s strategic priorities

  • Work in partnership with portfolio team members in the preparation of assessments, reports, and presentations that support internal alignment on mandate priorities and highlight key decision points, risks, and mitigations for OH’s implementation plans associated with these priorities.

  • Support teams from across OH in the preparation of business cases to address resource requirements to deliver on mandate priorities.

 

Here is what you will need to be successful:    

Education and Experience  

  • Undergraduate Degree required, preferably in Public Policy, Business, Health, Administration, or another relevant discipline.

  • A Masters Level Degree in these fields would be an asset.

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a strategy or planning role with ministry or government agency

  • Work experience in health care is preferred

  • Understanding of the Ontario Public Service is an asset

  •  Ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality, at all times

  • Political acuity and effective stakeholder management and relationship building skills

  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • High degree of professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability.

  • Excellent interpersonal and business relationship management skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with internal and external business partners

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting principles and practices

  • Familiarity and comfort working in a fast-paced, growing, and multi-priority environment

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools

  • Knowledge of Workday solution is an asset
