Benefits Consultant – Job Description


Polaris is looking for a Sr. Benefits Advisor of Total Rewards to join our HR Team at the Corporate Headquarters in Medina, MN. This position will report to the Sr. Manager Healthcare, Retirement and Stock Plans, and plays a key role in carrying out the vision of Polaris’ benefits philosophy, and supporting our evolving business needs. This role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver a premier benefits portfolio designed to support the workforce and enhance the employee experience. The major areas of focus will include health and welfare plans, including dental and vision, discount programs,  HSA, FSA, leave of absence, life and disability, EAP, retiree benefits, 401(k), global stock plans, Employee Stock Ownership, and Employee Stock Purchase plans. This role will play a pivotal role in employee communication on value proposition of health & welfare programs.  Responsibilities include design, consultation and administration of healthcare benefits, retirement benefits and stock plan administration for US and international locations. 


Governance of benefits plans

  • Administration, management, and plan design assistance of health and welfare plans, retiree benefits, equity plans and retirement plans.
  • Monitor benefits plans, including governance and market competitiveness.
  • Work closely with our Payroll and HRIS teams to ensure accurate reporting related to contribution, funding and tax withholding.
  • Collaborate on design, implementation and the administration of employee benefit programs, including health, global wellbeing, life, absence management, retirement, equity and defined contribution programs across various countries.
  • Support US healthcare open enrollment, global wellness and benefits design and implementation.
  • Administration of equity transactions for a global workforce: granting, exercise, sale, releases, retirements and other terminations, expatriates, and international transfers
  • Support monthly, quarterly and annual reporting activities, working closely with the Payroll, Accounting, Executive Compensation, Finance, Treasury and Tax departments
  • Partner with HR operations team to respond to escalated employee inquiries.
  • Develop communication materials and tools to elevate communications as well as assist with live and recorded trainings for employees to aid them in understanding their benefits and making election decisions.
  • Conduct audits of data to ensure processes and policies are being managed effectively and data quality is maintained/improved amongst internal and external systems.
  • Monitor the external landscape, including trends, legislative changes, and other market developments, to understand the impact on and opportunities for the rewards programs, policies, and processes.
  • Ensure adequacy of internal controls, proper accounting for all rewards programs, and compliance with global, federal, state, and local legislation.


  • B.A. /B.S is required
  • Certificate from WorldatWork in Benefits or other equivalent certification in benefits or retirement plans a plus


  • 7+ years of progressive rewards experience in rapidly changing environments.  Manufacturing experience desired, international experience a plus


  • Knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, EPA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPPA, SEC regulations & employment laws, and state parental/family leave.
  • Experience in compliance matters- “non-discrimination testing, 5500 filing”, international equity considerations – tax, privacy, and reporting
  • New benefit plan implementation, including highly complex project management and coordination with multiple vendors simultaneously 
  • Strong consultative skills in developing innovative or customized solutions in dynamic settings by being the “voice of employees”
  • Ability to partner cross functionally within the organization and externally with vendors Demonstrated expertise in making benefits processes more efficient
  • Great communication and presentation skills, including change management experience
  • Exposure to Total Rewards is strongly preferred
  • Highly organized, takes initiative and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Acting with a sense of urgency and timeliness; passionate about setting high quality standards
  • Advanced proficiency of Excel, Power Point, Word required
  • Experience working with Human Resources Management Systems; Workday experience is a plus
