SUMMARY
The Property Tax Specialist position is primarily responsible for the Property Tax compliance function and will report to the Property Tax Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interpret property tax requirements including fixed asset and vehicle reviews to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of personal property tax returns

  • Ensure timely remittance of associated personal property & real property tax payments

  • Assist with the preparation of the Arkansas & Tennessee Motor Carrier Returns

  • Ensure timely posting of real and personal property tax payments to the general ledger

  • Provide guidance to junior level staff; handle more complex assignments

  • Reconcile and analyze real and personal property tax liability and credit accounts on a monthly basis, and maintain documentation to adhere to Operating Tax internal control requirements

  • Review monthly reconciliations and internal control documentation with Management to document and explain variances in account balances as required by Internal Audit

  • Prepare personal property tax appeals for valuation disputes with the various taxing authorities

  • Assists with gathering documentation and preparing workpapers for property tax audits and assist management with overall audit to minimize liability exposure and complete audits as expeditiously as possible

  • Gather documentation as requested by third party tax consultants to assist with real and personal property tax appeals when necessary

  • Complete technical research projects with minimal supervision; document and review findings with Management

  • Provide support to other areas of the Operating Tax group as requested by Management

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support all areas in the Operating Tax department

  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with US property tax rules and preparing tax returns

  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Solid understanding of the underlying concepts of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Solid tax research skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision; ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Excellent work ethic and ability to collaborate with a team; ambitious and driven

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of Workday a plus, knowledge of OneSource Property Tax software a plus

  • Experience working in a Public Accounting environment a plus

  • CPA or CMI a plus

  • Proven ability in maintaining tax systems

KNOWLEDGE

  • Solid understanding of Excel/Word & Access; advanced level.

  • High level of accounting skills; advanced level.

  • Knowledge and understanding of state personal property tax laws; intermediate level.

  • Real Estate and Personal Property tax laws in all states; intermediate level; preferred.
