The Benefits and Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist is responsible for the delivery and administration of Salo’s benefit programs for all employees, providing a broad range of benefits and HR support. This individual also facilitates Salo’s LOA process, ensuring a smooth and pleasant employee experience. This is a fast-paced and rewarding role. Responsibilities and duties

  • Facilitating all benefits administration (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), and ancillary benefit offerings).

  • Facilitating Salo’s LOA process, ensuring a smooth and pleasant employee experience.

  • Answering all employee benefits and LOA questions and assisting, when necessary, with benefits changes, claims, and appeals.

  • Monitoring and answering vendor questions related to employee enrollment changes.

  • Reviewing and approving benefits enrollments and terminations in Salo’s HRIS, Workday.

  • Acting as a liaison for the Total Rewards team with Accounting/Payroll on various payroll questions.

  • Monitoring and correcting benefits deductions within payroll.

  • Monitoring and collecting unpaid employees benefit premiums monthly (Arrears Process).

  • Facilitating and communicating semiannual benefits enrollment changes due to Salo’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) lookback policy.

  • Auditing COBRA events and entering/correcting missed information.

  • Creating and reconciling benefits invoices and submitting for payment processing.

  • Managing the Evidence of Insurability (EOI) process for Salo’s life and disability enrollments.

  • Assisting with project work related to annual project: Benefits renewal, ACA reporting, w-2 tie-outs, and 401(k) audit

  • Helping the Total Rewards Manager and Communications Manager with creating, reviewing, and updating benefits communication and materials.

  • Assisting with benefits and payroll testing in Salo’s HRIS, Workday.

  • Developing a program to host regularly scheduled info sessions on benefits and the lookback period for Salo employees.

  • Developing and maintaining process documentation.

  • Assisting Total Rewards Manager with administrative work related to quarterly and annual bonus payouts.

  • Serving as back-up to other HR team members when necessary

  • Completing special projects and assignments as requested

Required skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • A minimum of 3 years hands-on benefits administration

  • Some experience and exposure to LOA administration

  • Familiarity with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA

  • Knowledge and experience working with Workday HRIS

  • Proficiency in Office 365: Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to prioritize multiple projects

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees of all levels within the organization, as well as consultants and vendors

  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism

  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality in the workplace
