The Payroll Specialist processes the enterprise payroll and ensures all payroll-related tasks are completed accurately and timely. This role is responsible for maintaining payroll compliance, performing administrative duties, and collaborating within the enterprise and with other departments. The Payroll Specialist processes, reviews and ensures accuracy of the pertinent information to support the bi-weekly payroll process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Examines time data entry and evaluates for accuracy and completeness of regular time, vacation payout, salary, leave of absence, overtime and retroactive pay.
2.    Assesses retroactive hours not paid from a previous pay period within the payroll system.  Ensures all manual deductions and deposits are recorded accurately and timely.
3.    Creates, populates and uploads electronic files for tips and one-time payments/ deductions. Analyzes employee reported tips for reasonableness.
4.    Responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns.  Assists in assembling payroll data for employee compensation related to internal/external payroll audits.
5.    Researches and addresses employee and stale dated checks, as needed.
6.    Partners with third parties on employment garnishments, tax levies, support orders, special pay runs and other adjustments to pay, as needed.
7.    Develops ad hoc reports related to payroll activity and distributes reports to various departments.  Reports may include overtime, hours paid, and tips reports.
8.    Collaborates with HR and finance teams to address payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
9.    Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

 EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Associates degree in Accounting is preferred.

  • Minimum three (3) years of payroll or payroll related experience is required.    

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Experience using Workday software is preferred. 

  • Familiar with basic payroll laws, including overtime, part-time and regular pay.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral communication is required.

  • Experience with general office equipment and software, including but not limited to 10-key calculator by touch, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

    Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.
