Reporting to the Payroll System Manager, the Payroll Support Analyst will use their detail-oriented, analytical and technical skills to utilize Workday to optimize Payroll productivity. In this role, the Payroll Support Analyst will provide ongoing technical and payroll support to a variety of applications used in the payroll function system including, but not limited to, employee/manager self-service, benefits modules, time and attendance, and payroll processing. Must serve as a technical point-of contact for assigned changes, report writing and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities. Must also maintain a strict level of confidentiality and act in a manner consistent with all legal and regulatory requirements and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Payroll Systems Analyst will also support system upgrades, patches, testing and other technical projects as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Works with Payroll Support Manager as a team member and subject matter expert of the payroll system(s) by administering and ensuring the overall integrity of the payroll data in Workday by reconciling payroll data and documents for inefficiencies, errors, and completeness.

2. Assists department staff, employees, and manager with technical issues or inquiries related to the use of Workday by collecting, compiling, writing, analyzing and generating data for various reports from the Workday database as needed.

3. Audit payroll data to correct quarterly taxes to ensure correct quarterly tax filing and W2 reporting and communicate with employees affected by the correction, if applicable.

4. Assists with project oversight from design through implementation to ensure project is completed in a timely manner, as well as communicating progress updates to senior management and providing recommendations for process enhancements.

5. Performs payroll processing functions including, but not limited to, reviewing time data entry for accuracy, reviewing manual deductions and retroactive hours, and loading electronic files.

6. Performs routine data audits to analyze and address issues to assist payroll users from creating and/or updating earnings or deductions codes by providing solutions to a problem.

7. Acts as functional report writing administrator by assisting staff in the creation of more difficult queries to select and compile information from the HRIS system as needed.

8. Assist with the accurate reconciliation and ensure that all payments are made for 401K, Deferred Comp, Pension.  

9. Leads and conducts end-user training on payroll system(s) and report writing, serving as the liaison between departments and external vendors to provide systems support to leverage technology solutions.

10. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent relevant work experience required.

  • Minimum five (5) years related high-volume payroll processing required.  

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

  • Workday and e-Time software experience highly preferred.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft (Word and Excel) and mid-tier computerized payroll processing systems required.

  • Must be proficient with 10-key by touch.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure and job ambiguity.

  • This position requires an individual with highly developed maturity and impeccable communication skills.

  • Must be personable and professional, capable of using caution and discretion in communication.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
