The San Manuel Human Resources department provides exceptional internal and external customer support while driving Human Resources (HR) functional excellence and process improvement. Under the direction of the Manager, Compensation, the Performance Management Specialist Senior will lead the implementation, execution and operational process of the performance management program. Assists in preparing and monitoring of the annual performance management cycle by developing timelines, gathering and administering information for audits, reviews and reports while providing operational support for the performance management, compensation and special projects. The primary goal of the performance management role is to assist the users to recognize the link between performance management, individual development and rewards that align to enterprise strategies and objectives. This position is an individual contributor role. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in HR; serving as a subject matter expert and specialist to support the HR and San Manuel management and leadership team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Serves as the performance management subject matter resource by ensuring the success of the annual performance management program. Functions as a liaison and provides support to key stakeholders (HR PST, HRIS, Communications and Compensation) teams on the process, timing, review and reward cycle planning, on-going feedback and review, mid-year reviews, and final reviews.  Prepares employee and management notices, conducts internal HR briefings, and ensures timely performance project timeline and actions.  Reviews and prepares materials for the Business Committee. Coordinates executive, performance management Business Committee book development and distribution.

2. Serves as a point of contact on Workday system configurations. Works with Workday HRIS team to provide configuration requirements for dashboards, reports, enhancements, updates, and management status reports, etc.  This may at times include working with our data analytics team to develop reports and dashboards to measure the status and outcome of performance management processes.

3. Provides metrics to track the status and outcome of the performance management process and communicates status and progress to HR People Services team and HR Leadership team, Supervisors and Managers.

4. Works with HR Leadership to document and record performance management, development and compensation practices and guidelines.  Ensures that San Manuel’s recognition and reward program complies with overarching policy(ies), applicable laws and regulations in their design.

5. Conducts audits and ensures information is processed accurately in the system.

6. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department and assumes other responsibilities, duties, tasks and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to any public health emergency.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, organizational development or mathematics required. Master’s Degree in human resources, organizational development or mathematics preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in human resources specializing in performance management or functioned in a generalist with some compensation, organizational development, statistical reporting, analytical reporting team, project/program development, implementation and execution required.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in human resources specializing in performance management or functioned in a generalist with some compensation, organizational development, statistical reporting, analytical reporting team, project/program development, implementation and execution preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant, and direct experience may be considered in lieu of the minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • The ideal candidate would have strong critical thinking, business acumen, research, information management and communications and project management skills. 
  • Experience creating and providing information to Board of Directors (BOD) or C-suite executives, preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as front line presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and priorities within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • High level of energy, ambition, positive attitude and ability to work in high diverse team environment to deliver effectiveness and efficiency. 
  • Ability to establish excellent relationships and work cooperatively with individuals, groups and organizations that are diverse in mission, composition, function, capacity and geographic location.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering, analyzing, and translating data into memos, presentations, and reports.
  • Ability to collaborate, problem solve and analyze effectively.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel; Advanced proficiency with Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Workday or other business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI preferred. 


  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) is preferred. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) is preferred.
