The Senior Accountant supports the Controller and Financial Services department in carrying out the responsibilities of the department and the overall goals of the organization. The position must have a good understanding of accounting, financial analysis, and internal controls. Routine responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing journal entries, supporting the month end close processes, completing assigned balance sheet reconciliations, preparing schedules for the annual audit, supporting the annual filing of the organization’s 990 and 1120 returns, and carrying out other duties as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs the day-to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and analysis for assigned areas.  Identifies and researches any related variances.
  • Is knowledgeable of all general ledger related processes and accounts relative to assigned areas. 
  • Completes assigned journal entries and areas of responsibility accurately and timely in the month end close process.
  • Records monthly fixed asset and depreciation entries.  Reconciles the related accounts each month.
  • Serves as a resource for questions for internal customers.
  • Completes assigned balance sheet reconciliations timely and accurately.
  • Supports the annual preparation and filing of the organization’s 990 and 1120 returns.
  • Supports preparation of various annual State and Federal surveys.
  • Provides assistance with the annual audit through preparation of schedules, pulling of financial information, and other requests as assigned.
  • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study required. 

REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION

  • No minimum certification required.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years of public accounting experience or five years of industry experience.

REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in financial analysis.
  • Proven ability to adhere to deadlines.
  • Proficient in Office 365, particularly Excel. Experienced in general ledger applications.
  • Workday experience a plus.
  • Self-directed with good problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Healthcare and/or nonprofit experience a plus.
  • High degree of judgement and independent decision-making.
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to plan, manage and evaluate multiple priorities.
  • Communicates effectively using timely verbal, non-verbal and written communication.
  • Willingly adapts to changing work demands and work environment.
  • Maintain congenial working relationships with peers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation a plus
