Position Summary

Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting for the Company’s regulated utilities

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for month end close (journal entries, reconciliations, etc.) for the regulated utility companies  

  • Preparation of financial statements and footnotes for SEC filings 

  • Independently planning and executing assigned tasks that support routine activities and project goals with minimal supervision 

  • Proactively suggest and help select appropriate methods and techniques in performing task 

  • Collaborating with supervisory personnel to develop routine methods and demonstrating deep level of understanding project goals and methods 

  • Recommends alternatives, identifies new methods and techniques and proactively seeks out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems 

  • Participating in group meetings. Presenting results of work, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work 

  • Viewed as a subject matter resource.  Proactively provides technical accounting guidance to other departments to ensure appropriate recording of transactions. 

  • May review staff accountant work products

  • Ownership- Independently ensures issues are driven to resolution in a timely fashion 

  • Responsible for providing support for regulatory filings and rate cases as needed 

Day to day tasks:

  • May assist in providing day-to-day direction and recommendations to other team members 

  • Ability to effectively drive change and continuous improvements 

  • Goal setting, employee engagement and development 

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC  

  • Effectively communicate with other key leaders across the organization 

  • Champion process improvements and special projects 

  • Ensure SOX control compliance 

  • Update and maintain appropriate Policies and Procedures 

  • Support the annual regulatory reports filing process 

  • Work closely with external auditors and ensure that any auditor concerns are addressed in a clear and succinct fashion to avoid additional follow up 


Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of 5 year of relevant experience 

  • Or Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience ​​

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree 

Preferred Background:

  • Knowledge of regulated utilities

  • C.P.A. preferred 

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of GAAP 

  • Knowledge of SOX controls 

  • Strong MS Excel skills

  • Working knowledge of Workday software a plus
