Senior Accountant – Atlanta

The Senior Accountant works with the VP of Finance/Global Accounting from Denmark to execute a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, approval of tax returns, bank reconciliations, and general ledger reviews across our 3 companies.  The Senior Accountant will also support the local VP of Finance, Americas with any financial ad hoc assignments.

Accounting & Finance Team

Stibo Systems is seeking a new team member to join the Global Accounting & Finance Team. This position will report into the VP of Finance/Global Accounting.  The Global Accounting & Finance team has 20 employees placed across the globe and divided into Accounting, Controlling and Invoicing.  We have two VP’s of Finance – one for EMEA & APAC in Aarhus, Denmark and one for the Americas in Atlanta.

Senior Accountant Role & Responsibilities

This is a senior role in our Accounting & Finance Department.  As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for month-end & year-end close, A/P, audit assistance, and special reporting.  Our work is executed in our ERP system, Workday.  Prior experience with Workday would be great, but not a must, as we believe we quickly can get a new person up to speed in this ERP system. Locally, we are also using a sales tax system called Avalara and it would be helpful if the person in this position has some prior experience with sales tax and, preferably, Avalara.

More specifically, you will:

  • Complete month-end closing processes, prepare journal entries and make adjustments accordingly.
  • Control fixed asset schedules and complete balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support the A/P team with supplier invoices and make sure we pay our suppliers on time.
  • Participate in audits and report to external auditors by providing useful documentation, spreadsheets, and cash information that help with yearly and periodic audits.
  • Prepare/control bank reconciliations and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide external auditors with documentation and explanations for annual audit; assist external tax firm with documentation for preparation of quarterly and annual income tax schedules.
  • Respond to inquiries from senior management regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Manage corporate business filings to ensure compliance, including: sales tax, property tax, business licenses and registrations.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will be able to take direction well, work independently in the absence of direction while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting short deadlines.  You will have strong attention to detail, accuracy and a process-oriented mindset.  You have demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving, with strong decision-making capability.  You are not afraid to speak up if new processes, procedures or methodologies are needed to better meet accuracy, efficiency and compliance.

Moreover, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or Business with emphasis in Accounting, required
  • 3+ years of experience in Accounting minimum (5+ years preferred)
  • Expert-level Excel proficiency – demonstrated ability to work with large volumes of data to generate reports across multiple cost centers          
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Experience with Avalara (tax system) would be helpful
  • Experience with State & Federal sales and corporate taxes
  • Experience with Workday a plus
