A role in the Finance Operations leverages your skills for quality performance of financial transactions and accurate financial reporting while providing thoughtful and responsive support, expertise and guidance to business partners. Your role will be critical to ensuring the success of Target’s business initiatives and core retail operations.  As a Sr Manager, Payroll Operations, you are responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to the Payroll Operations team and ensuring all operational and accounting processes and controls are effective for timely, accurate and compliant payroll activities.

In addition, you are responsible for developing and executing complex operational plans, improvement initiatives, and other assigned projects for the Payroll Operations team that creates the foundation for world class operations.  In this role you have ownership for driving new projects and process improvements that support key initiatives and company strategies by leading cross-company working teams and influencing change.  Collaboration with key partners including, the Payroll team in Minneapolis, Human Resources, Benefits, Compensation, Finance and Employee Relations is critical to success in this role.

Given the volume and complexity of the regulatory environment, the Sr Manager Payroll Operations is responsible for managing compliance with all Payroll regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and Sarbanes Oxley by developing and maintaining a robust system of internal controls and processes.  It is critical to anticipate and analyze new payroll industry trends and regulatory developments to maintain compliance,  and identify compliance challenges to continually improve key performance metrics and benchmarks versus the industry.  Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
  • 12 to 15 years of Payroll Business experience
  • Workday experience
  • 4-6 years of project management experience
  • Proven ability to think and act strategically, analytically and with operational and control discipline
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude
  • Ability to demonstrate innovative and creative problem solving skills
  • Strong compliance experience and internal controls knowledge
  • Ability to communicate clearly to senior leadership (written and verbal)
  • Experience working effectively across functional areas to drive results
  • Strong team leadership skills and ability to develop and motivate team members
