About this Position

The Senior Payroll Specialist is part of a team that is responsible for supporting internal customers with payroll questions and ensuring the biweekly payroll cycle deadlines for 1,000+ employees are met. This position performs a variety of duties involving payroll processing; reviewing, entering, and auditing payroll data; and ensuring adherence to established payroll policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Oversees accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll in accordance with company policies, practices, and procedures 

  • Subject matter expert in federal and state payroll compliance requirements and deadlines

  • Ensures deadlines are met and stays current with changes in law and pay policies

  • Monitors performance of payroll system by identifying system defects, enhancement opportunities, and system upgrades

  • Performs peer reviews of payroll and reports anomalies and research variances

  • Researches new regulations impacting the payroll process

  • Assists with developing payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to identify, recommend, and implement changes leading to best practice operations; responsible for training payroll department staff

  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service in resolving employee requests and questions

  • Coordinate activities to assist with audits of internal records, workers compensation, tax payments, and completing regulatory filings (941, C-3, W-2…etc.)

  • Creates, reviews, and analyzes monthly journal entries, payment activity, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity

  • Coordinates vehicle titles, registrations, and other related record keeping for fleet vehicles. 

  • Maintains Fleet database with new vehicle purchases, fleet maintenance, fleet accidents and damages, fuel cards, and telematics system

  • Assists with ad-hoc finance analyses and provide project assistance or other duties as assigned

The successful candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience

  • Payroll certification (CPP, FPC)

  • At least four years of payroll experience or equivalent education, training, or experience

  • Proficiency in the MS Office applications

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking, and time management skills
