Position Overview

The Payroll Analyst assists in the efficient operation of processing union and non-union payrolls. Performs duties related to payroll functions, including timely entering of payroll and payroll-related data in Workday, processes timely and accurate payrolls, compiles payroll statistics, completes payroll reporting requests, and maintains payroll control records, in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and processing of all payroll-related tickets in a timely manner while ensuring appropriate backup documentation, accuracy, and obtaining necessary approvals as required.
  • Accurately process payroll and meet all deadlines.
  • Create EIB files and submit them for upload into the Workday system.
  • Conduct audits of payroll data and balance file totals to payroll totals.
  • Save all supporting documentation and balancing reports to the shared drive.
  • During weekly and bi-weekly payroll transmissions, review benefits premium deductions on file feeds prior to submission of payroll.
  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure compliance with various federal, state, and local laws and regulations for multi-jurisdiction payroll activities.
  • Work with HR and third-party vendors to ensure upstream errors causing pay issues are handled timely.
  • Analyze, resolve, and correct pre- and/or post-payroll validation.
  • Create summary reports for management as needed.
  • Overseeing payroll procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits on payroll procedures and records.
  • Design, document and implement procedures to streamline payroll processes.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries to accrue and report proper employee payroll costs.
  • Oversee the quarterly and annual payroll tax returns including accurate W2 reporting.
  • Lead/participate in payroll projects and opportunities as assigned.
  • Research and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices.
  • Other duties as requested by management.


  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in processing high-volume, multi-state payroll using an automated payroll system.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and experience working in Excel with large data sets with accuracy and speed; including use of functions, pivot tables
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
  • Tax experience strongly preferred.
  • Workday experience a plus.
  • Experience in processing Union payroll.
  • Experience in multi-state payroll environment required.
  • Working knowledge of US payroll compliance rules and regulations required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Goal-driven and able to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytic skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and perform them both accurately and timely amid rapid changes.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work from home full-time but periodically be able to go onsite to the Corp office in Santa Fe Springs, CA.
