Accountant III

Finance Accounting Management

Exempt Regular, 100% Full-Time, Pay Grade 2.2

Location: Adelphi, Maryland

This position is responsible for ensuring that transactions are in accordance with UMGC, State and Federal policies/procedures; and are recorded consistent with acceptable accounting standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

  • Reconciles assigned accounts, analyze and research outstanding items and make adjusting entries as needed.

  • Maintains manual and automated recordkeeping systems by tracking, verifying and updating records, files and reports. Inputs, monitors, and corrects data in automated systems; generates reports.

  • Ensures that transactions are in accordance with applicable authority, policies, procedures, and are recorded consistent with acceptable accounting standards.

  • Maintain accounting records for the Marriot, including recording monthly revenue, preparing journals, creating miscellaneous invoices, monitoring contract compliance, and recording intercampus charges.

  • Ensures capital and inventoried asset activity is completed in accordance with policy, to include preparing monthly reconciliations, recording of fixed asset and equipment activity, and verification of asset status.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education 4-year college degree

  • Discipline/Major – Accounting/Finance

  • Experience – 3 to 5 years

  • Strong communication and analytical skills

  • Workday or similar complex accounting system

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of UMGC policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of Workday Financials

  • Knowledge of RSTARS
