UCAR is excited to announce the job opening for the Business and Finance Data Analyst. This analyst provides business application and analytics support for business and finance stakeholders across the organization.

The analyst will facilitate the administration of the business intelligence platform and related applications, including application development, application strategy, configuration, support, and ad-hoc reporting across multiple functions within the institution.

This position utilizes a combination of business intelligence techniques, modeling, financial/budget knowledge, and analysis skills to design and develop reports, performance metrics, custom applications and systems to support the dynamic needs of the institution’s management teams and financial system users. Attention to detail and mindfulness of the big picture is essential for success in this role.

Hiring Range: Annual Salary Range: $83,181 to 103,976

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT AT UCAR

Here is a brief outline of what one would expect to be responsible for in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Business Intelligence Reporting

  • Collaborates with staff across various levels of the organization, including senior leadership, Information Technology staff, functional managers, subject matter experts, change management and communications professionals, quality assurance staff, and business analysts to develop and implement reporting and analytics business requirements.

  • Actively participates in the full development life cycle of reporting and analytics including: developing business requirements, writing reports, developing dashboards, validating report quality and accuracy, and supporting production deployment as needed. Responsible for updating and maintaining the configuration of business intelligence applications, including workflow configuration, master data, and embedded business rules.

  • Provides a unified set of reporting criteria to support institutional best practices and shared sponsor and program needs.

  • Serves as a point of contact for end users to address user needs, issues, and opportunities for optimization.

  • Collaborates with software engineers, data architects and modelers to design new requirements into the data models.

Application Support

  • Ensures all applications are functioning properly and monitors software application integrations.

  • Troubleshoots or delegates issues and monitors resolution from end-to-end. Fixes may include short-term workarounds but will always focus on long-term and comprehensive solutions to problems.

  • Creates and maintains system roles for users of the system. Determines what roles employees will be granted in the platform. Performs periodic audits to ensure users access privileges are regularly reviewed and provides guidance to users on system security capabilities.

  • Performs direct support to internal users of the systems

  • Ensures documentation for systems use, change requests, and issues is maintained.

Decision Making & Problem Solving

  • Independently sets complex and changing work priorities, both daily and weekly, to respond to management priorities and deadlines.

  • Requires the ability to effectively and efficiently analyze and resolve complex problems involving application-oriented, accounting, and project management issues.

  • Uses reason, logic, detailed knowledge and originality to solve highly complex problems, develop more than one way to verify results, and form plans of action for the future in response to a wide range of situations.

  • Uses innovative and in-depth conceptual thinking in anticipating and defining problems in program and budget planning, understanding the problem and interconnection to UCAR and NCAR management processes, and formulating and presenting solutions.

Education & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years experience configuring and administering large-scale, enterprise business intelligence applications, database and report development.

  • 2 years experience with Workday Financials and Workday Report Writer (included in minimum 5 years experience). 

Desired but not required   

  • Experience with Workday Planning.

  • Experience with Power BI and / or IBM Cognos.

  • Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning, Discovery Boards, and Advanced Reports.

  • Experience with writing and executing SQL.

  • Professional experience in a higher education, non-profit, or research institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced in knowledge of financial and fund accounting practices, business intelligence and analytics, and related technology applications.

  • Skill in administering and configuring business intelligence applications.

  • Advanced skill in business and business process modeling, with a continuous improvement mindset.[DG1] 

  • Skill in authoring reports and dashboards.

  • Strong technical aptitude, including solid understanding of basic information technology concepts, including transaction processing, relational database systems, web technologies, etc.

  • Knowledge of working with project management methodologies and leading practices (e.g. Agile, SCRUM, waterfall) to follow and implement a project schedule to meet critical deadlines.

  • Ability to use issue and project and portfolio management tools (e.g. JIRA Service Desk, MS Project, etc.).[DG2] 

  • Organized and analytical, adept at working in a diverse team environment, and detail-oriented with strong time management skills.

  • Advanced skills in analysis and report design for predictive, descriptive, and decision support models, including revenue and expense forecasting, staff budget modeling, project budgets, consolidations, normalizing, and mapping to operational and strategic plans.

  • Balance of strong communication and documentation skills, both technical and non-technical focused.
