Job Description Summary:

Monitors, audits and supervises budget transactions for numerous budget types throughout the agency/institution. Performs analytical budgetary functions and assures budgets are in compliance with authorized budget limitations and currently established budget guidelines and requirements. Develops new and improved budget procedures. Assists with preparations of agency/institution budget documents and other related budget materials.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or related work experience may substitute on a year for year basis

Work Experience:

  • 4 years related work experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Master’s Degree (Finance, Business Administration, Management)

  • Certified:  CRA, CCRP, CPRA

Work Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in a large clinical unit within academia or research administration

  • Experience with statutes and guidelines relevant to regulatory affairs in clinical research

  • Experience working in a University or large clinical academic institution

  • Experience in Workday Systems and Adaptive.

  • Experience with federal guidelines – Uniform Guidance, FAR Clauses, etc.

Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; good judgment; analytical problem-solving ability; and ability to provide high-quality service in a timely manner is required.

Job Duties Outlined

  • Manage and perform activities related to multiple areas of sponsored projects administration including, but not limited to pre-award and post-award activities for multiple cost centers within Internal Medicine.

  • Perform a variety of technical and skilled duties involved in meticulously developing major program projects in accordance with established KUMC polices, federal and State regulations. Support grant opportunities, facilitate proposal development, contribute to non-technical components of proposals, process proposals, develop budgets, support contracts development, ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and terms and conditions.

  • Prepare budgets and works with various entities intra-inter institutional to clarify project budgets and re-budgeting requirements.

  • Review contracts and sub-agreements to ensure expenditures comply with the terms.

  • Oversee the expenditures while working with research teams across the organization to ensure allowability, allocability, and reasonableness of the costs in support of cost management.

  • Engage in reporting to sponsors and communicates with institutional structures for timely processing of deliverables.

  • Support internal implementation of general principles of GAAP standards in sustaining financial compliance and consistency with contracts/agreements over the life of the project; following institutional and sponsor guidelines.

  • Manage or perform analytical and financial activities associated with cost studies, forecasting, planning, and managing research portfolios.

  • Engage in multi-dimensional responsibilities in nature, typically include various cross-functional duties and responsibility across multiple units of the organization.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
