Job Description Summary:
The Research Operations Manager will lead faculty and staff recruitment and onboarding efforts to expand and support the institution’s research initiatives. This position will focus on identifying, attracting, recruiting, and retaining top talent for various research roles. The Operations Manager will work closely with CIRO Leadership to develop and implement recruitment strategies that align with the institution’s goals. In collaboration with central HR, this role will oversee the entire departmental recruitment process to ensure a seamless transition for new hires.

Job Responsibilities

Manage a team of Research Operations staff overseeing the departmental administration processes for faculty and staff recruitment.

Serve as the main point of contact for administrative issues and affiliated processes, liaising with departments such as the Chair’s Office, Office of International Programs (OIP), SOM administration, and other campus offices and organizations (e.g., Graduate Studies, KUMC Educational Experience (KEE)).

Implement and manage effective administrative processes to ensure operational efficiency and quality outcomes.

Manage the departmental faculty recruitment process, including obtaining approvals, outreach, serving as departmental point of contact for the candidate once the offer letter has been signed, and overseeing departmental onboarding.

Oversee the coordination of site visits for prospective faculty.

Oversee the department onboarding and offboarding processes for faculty and staff to ensure a seamless transition.

Conduct post-hire check-ins to assess the quality of department onboarding/offboarding processes.

Provide regular updates to senior leadership on the status of faculty searches, visits, hires, and retention.

Generate and analyze departmental recruitment metrics and reports to provide insights on the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and identify areas for improvement.

Act as main point of contact and administrative liaison for Principal Investigators or research managers regarding HR related transactions, notifying HRBP of concerns and questions.

Work in partnership with other CIRO managers to develop a CIRO SharePoint site for centralized document management, streamlined collaboration, and easy access to resources.

Monitor CIRO project timelines, faculty transitions, and continuous improvement metrics.

Assist CIRO leadership with the planning and implementation of research projects.

Promote a supportive department culture that encourages morale and performance.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience can substitute for the degree on a year-to-year basis.
Work Experience:

Minimum four (4) years of experience in research administration, operations management, or closely related field.

Experience managing personnel or a team.

Demonstrated experience in project management.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree in business, public administration, education, or related field.
Work Experience:

Experience working in a university or large academic institution.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.Â
