Job Description Summary:

The Senior Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for providing support to the Institutional Finance team with regard to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including preparation of journal entries and analysis as needed to adjust from cash basis reporting to management to GASB reporting. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Reporting and Compliance, the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst will serve as the lead on the preparation of quarterly reporting within the institution. The ideal candidate is highly organized and adept at preparing reconciliations and summarizing large volumes of data.

Job Duties Outlined

  • Prepare and distribute quarterly financial statements as requested by University leadership, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Financial Reporting and Compliance on the preparation of the Annual Financial Report, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Work with Assistant Director, Financial Reporting and Compliance to implement new GASB standards by updating accounting policies, procedures, and financial statement disclosures.
  • Utilize financial software to enhance finance reporting capabilities, including Office Connect and Workday Projects module.
  • Support financial statement audits by preparing schedules, providing requested documentation, and assisting in audit follow-up as necessary.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting and analysis including JCERT quarterly reconciliation, quarterly overtime reporting, and annual Medicare cost reporting.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting as required by the State of Kansas, University of Kansas – Lawrence campus, and University of Kansas Medical Center
  • Prepare monthly analysis to improve transaction coding by department administrative personnel. Propose manual journals and accounting adjustments to correct posting as needed. Communicate changes to department administrative personnel as needed.
  • Develop and build relationships with Central Budget Office for increased efficiency in preparing budget to actual quarterly statements.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related degree.

Work Experience:

  • Three years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience drafting GASB or GAAP financial statements, including footnotes.
  • Experience with complex financial reconciliations.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite, including word, excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: CPA or master’s degree in related field.

Work Experience:

  • Five years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with large, complex organizational settings.
  • Professional experience in higher education setting and fund accounting.
  • Experience in Workday Financial.
  • Experience in KUEA One Solution System.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
