Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno, College of Education and Human Development seeks collaborative, community inclined candidates with leadership skills for the Manager, College Business Operations position. The Manager, College Business Operations, provides direct administrative support to the Dean, College of Education and Human Development by overseeing the daily operations of the College of Education and Human Development. This position serves as Education and Human Development’s budget officer and is responsible for the management, development, and oversight of the College’s fiscal accounts.

The Manager acts as the primary human resources officer and must ensure accuracy and timeliness of personnel actions as well as compliance with university, state, and federal regulations for all employment types. The Manager provides operational, fiscal, and personnel guidance to College administrators, prepares sensitive reports, makes improvements in College policies and procedures, provides back-up for position vacancies, conducts staff training, and oversees the work completed by direct reports and College departments and programs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, administer, monitor, balance and approve College budgets (state, self-supporting, gift, recharge, etc.); ensure fiscal compliance

  • Audit college accounts as well as develop college annual and biennium budgets

  • Oversee, review, and approve the completion and submittal of all budgetary and financial documents/transactions (excluding hosting and memberships) generated by the College’s departments and programs; approve and sign documents on behalf of the Dean

  • Ensure compliance with budgetary and financial policies, procedures, and guidelines

  • Prepare temporary funding for academic courses; approve and allocate funding requests for academic programs; monitor funding to ensure appropriate usage

  • Prepare, review, and approve financial reports and budgetary information for accreditation purposes

  • Oversee, review, and approve the completion and submittal of payroll and human resources actions for all employee types generated by departments and programs

  • Act as the College’s designated recommending authority

  • Coordinate the preparation and submittal of reports as requested by the Dean as well as UNR and Business Center North (BCN) Human Resources Offices

  • Administer and oversee faculty and classified searches; serve on search committees, as needed; approve recruitment submissions and requests; develop and review offer letters

  • Ensure compliance with personnel and payroll policies, procedures, and guidelines

  • Work with College administrators to resolve personnel conflicts for all employee types

  • Directly supervise, provide work direction, discipline (if necessary), and evaluate the performance of assigned employees

  • Lead and provide direction to the College’s department and program classified staff; oversee the work completed by these positions; provide input regarding performance evaluations

  • Train or coordinate the training of College employees and administrators in regards to College of Education, University, personnel, payroll, budgetary, and fiscal policies, procedures, and guidelines

  • Act as the College’s designated representative regarding fiscal and personnel issues; serve on committees; provide input and expertise regarding campus policies and procedures

  • Conduct quarterly meetings to communicate policy and procedure changes, important deadlines, etc.

  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and modification of the College’s strategic plans

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be knowledgeable of fiscal and HR operations in a university environment, have a sense of accountability regarding deadlines, be collaborative with a diverse team and contribute towards the mission and vison of the College and University.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related work experience OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience: human resources, fiscal operations

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of Workday fiscal and HR business processes

Compensation Grade

Administrative Faculty – C

Total Compensation

The total compensation package includes a competitive salary, moving allowance (if applicable), a rich retirement plan, health insurance options that include dental and vision, life insurance, long-term disability, thirty (30) days of sick leave provided upon start date and two (2) days of sick leave accrued per full month after the first year of service, two (2) days of annual leave accrued each full month, along with many other benefits.
