Budget Business Analyst – Contracts & Grants

The Rossier Contracts & Grants Office is seeking a Budget/Business Analyst to join its team within the Rossier School of Education’s Business Office. This role requires a customer service-driven, self-motived, full-time employee with great communication and organizational skills!  As a member of the team, the Budget/Business Analyst plays a key role in the continued success of our faculty and the school.

The selected candidate will have a hybrid work schedule and will report to the department’s Research Administrator. They will be responsible for monitoring, reconciling, analyzing, and reporting on budget activity for Rossier faculty and research centers.

The Budget/Business Analyst will have responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as an internal resource for contracts and grants. Monitors grant account activity and balances to ensure adherence to agency restrictions. Advises faculty, researchers, and staff regarding agency requirements and regulations. Coordinates the preparation of financial reports for submission to agencies or donors. Acts as liaison among researchers, Office of Contracts and Grants, Sponsored Projects Accounting, and other interested university offices.

  • Monitors actual income and expenses and develops projections in order to authorize or extend financial commitments for assigned accounts. Advises faculty and staff regarding university and/or sponsor regulations.  Extraction of financial data, evaluation and analyze variance and spending trends.  Prepare monthly financial reports and labor distribution reports and arrange monthly meetings with Principal Investigators to review summaries.

  • Sets up and maintains accounts. Reconciles account balances and activity to university financial records and initiates correcting entries. Prepares and submits financial reports as required and reviews for accuracy prior to distribution. Troubleshoots problems, including research of pertinent facts and interacts with appropriate university staff to achieve resolution. Coordinates year-end closing activity. Prepares five-year financial forecasts.

  • Determines when budget adjustments and journals are required and then prepares in accordance with university financial guidelines or agency requirements and restrictions.

  • Prepares, processes, and/or reviews paperwork for payroll, reimbursements, requisitions for consultants, professional or sub-award agreements, and any required budget/business forms.

  • Initiates and monitors expenditures for intercampus and external vendors, such as travel, purchasing equipment and supplies, human subject payments, and hiring staff or students. Interfaces with Purchasing, Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Sponsored Projects Accounting and external vendors to resolve any discrepancies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested. 

The hourly rate range for this position is $34.92-$39.88. Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of relevant work experience

  • Experience with financial/budget forecasting and reporting

  • Experience working with Workday financials

  • Experience working with contracts and grants

  • Advanced Proficiency in Excel

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 1 year

Minimum Field of Expertise: Business administration, accounting or related degree and budget experience including knowledge of government and fund accounting. Strong computer skills with use of automated spreadsheets.
