USC University Advancement division is seeking a Financial Analyst II to join its Business Office team.  Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for performing complex financial reporting and analyses to assist Executive Director, Finance and Administration in business and financial short- and long-term planning, monthly financial reconciliations at both divisional level and project level, and assist with annual budget planning, development and management.
 

The ideal candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can work efficiently and effectively.  He/she should have knowledge in accounting and financial management and reporting, compensation and payroll, budget development and administration, department short- and long-term planning, and can define problems, analyze or investigate issues and causes, research options and make recommendation for solutions.
 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitors financial operations for University Advancement including its affiliated programs.  Identifies problems or trends and evaluates for solutions.  Seeks resolution or brings to the attention of Executive Director, Finance and Administration for consideration.  Audit internal financial data to ensure accuracy.
     

  • Produces regular and ad-hoc financial and operating reports using Workday Financial and internal data processing files.  Evaluates and analyzes reports and data.  Develops conclusions and recommendations and communicate orally or in writing to Executive Director, Financial and Administration.
     

  • Reviews existing internal accounting, reporting and financial data management methods used by the division for adequacy.  Contributes to the development and/or modification of internal financial reporting and applications to enhance reporting and information capabilities.
     

  • Coordinates, organizes and completes strategic and complex projects of a financial or business nature requiring identification and extraction of data, evaluation, interpretation, analysis and summation of findings.  Presents results formally to Executive Director, Finance and Administration to facilitate decision-making.
     

  • Provides internal financial consulting services and advises on complex or technical financial issues.
     

  • Works as a partner to Executive Director in managing divisional-level financial projects, and assists with preparation of the annual budget request including local planning of short- and long-term budgets by compliling and organizing data for use in forecasts.
     

  • Analyze overall departmental spending versus budget and prepares ad hoc financial reports as requested.
     

  • Performs various internal audits including monthly labor distribution to ensure compensation payment accuracy and initiate payroll adjustments when needed.
     

  • Manage divisional-level IT projects financials tracking and IT inventory audit as needed.
     

  • Performs various business tasks such as initiating requisitions and change orders, expense transfers, authorize invoice payments for programs assigned.
     

  • Reviews and evaluates vendor proposals and track expenses for projects to assure adherence to university expense policies and procedure. Analyzes proposed projects for feasibility and initiate requisitions as needed.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

            Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Experience:

            3 years

Minimum Field of Expertise:

Business education or closely related field.  Experience in financial analysis and reporting with knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques.

Preferred Education

Master of Business Administration or Master in Accounting or Finance

Preferred Experience

  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience in finance or accounting

  • 3 or more years of project management

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures

  • University budget experience and knowledge of university financial systems

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Exceptional customer service skills to meet stakeholder needs

  • Ability to work in a cohesive team-oriented environments

  • A self-motivated critical thinker who can solve issues encountered and provide alternative solutions

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines and interact with all levels of management

Preferred Field of Expertise
 

Directly related experience in a university environment with knowledge of university budget systems and procedures preferred.  Knowledge and experience in using Workday Financials and HCM preferred.
