The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking an Office Assistant II for the Southern California Earthquake Center. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. USC Dornsife is also home to more than 50 research centers and institutes.

The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) studies earthquakes and their effects using southern California as our natural laboratory. Our staff includes a diverse group of individuals from local and worldwide communities, who work to advance the Center’s high standards and strong reputation as a leader in earthquake science research. SCEC seeks a full-time Office Assistant to join our team. Candidates for this forward-facing position should be adept at numerous administrative tasks, including: responding to external and internal inquiries; maintaining office calendars; expense processing and travel arrangements for research staff at USC and at our collaborating institutions; purchasing; and budget monitoring. Other duties include helping to organize regular events ranging from large conferences to office staff meetings to web conferences. Daily tasks include supply management, creating and maintaining new hire materials and office manual, website editing, and general office management and coordination.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional team player, who enjoys a fast-paced and challenging work setting, with a minimum of 2 years of administrative experience within a university setting. Strong skills in Google Workspace and Office 365, excellent email communication capabilities, and independent time-management skills are essential. Familiarity with Concur travel applications, Workday Financial Management software, and federal/university procurement policies is highly desirable. Some knowledge of earthquake science, natural hazards resiliency, or emergency preparedness is desirable.

This position is grant funded.

Pay range: $21-$27 per hour – DOE
